Mastodons and Mammoths were extinct by the time any pyramids were being constructed. Wooly Mammoths were cold climate creatures and would not survive the temperatures of Egypt. Only an Elephant could – but apparently were never used or they'd be depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphs and tomb art.

I would have been fine with a tribal battle across the desert or something. The pyramids really took you out of the story.
