Elite Dangerous[a] is a space flight simulation game developed and published by Frontier Developments. The player takes the role of a pilot (colloquially referred to as “Commander” or “CMDR”) of a spaceship, and explores a realistic 1:1 scale open-world representation of the Milky Way galaxy, with the gameplay being open-ended. The game is the first in the series to attempt massively multiplayer gameplay, with players’ actions affecting the narrative story of the game’s persistent universe, while also retaining a single-player mode. Elite Dangerous is the fourth game in the Elite video game series. It is the sequel to Frontier: First Encounters,[11] released in 1995.
Having been unable to agree to a funding deal with a publisher for many years, Frontier began its Kickstarter campaign in November 2012. Pre-release test versions of the game had been available to backers since December 2013, and the final game was released for Windows in December 2014,[1] with the macOS version later released in May 2015. A “preview” version of the game for Xbox One was later released via the Xbox Game Preview Program in June 2015 during Microsoft’s briefing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015,[12][13] and was fully released in October 2015,[14] while a PlayStation 4 version was released on 27 June 2017. Elite Dangerous additionally supports all PC virtual reality devices.[15][16]
Elite Dangerous Odyssey, which adds first-person shooter play on planetary surfaces and inside bases to the game, does not support virtual reality. Instead, the on foot player traverses these environments while wearing VR goggles with absolutely no depth perception, which is normally provided by a virtual reality experience. This effectively limits the player to viewing the environment through a ‘static rectangular window’, much like carrying around a large ‘viewing monitor’ directly in front of the field of view. [17]
By the end of April 2015, Elite Dangerous had sold over 500,000 copies, with Frontier Developments expected to generate £22 million from sales.[18] As of 15 January 2019, cumulative sales of Elite Dangerous exceeded 4.3 million franchise units, composed of 3 million base game units and 1.3 million Horizons expansion units.[19] In April 2020 the sales of Elite Dangerous base game units had passed 3.5 million.[20] During an interview published on 23 October 2020, Frontier CFO Alex Bevis announced that Elite Dangerous had generated more than £100 million of revenue.

it is nice to see someone just picking the game up not knowing anything about it, and having fun (well what looks like fun) figuring out how it works. There is a lot of grind to come, and even more fun to be had. I have been playing ED for over 1000 hours on steam and i have it on console. I enjoy the fact that you make your own story. There is no set way to do anything. I literally just finished a 5000 ly journey for an engineer, and am now grinding to unlock them. There is so much to do, and I find it helps that you set goals for what you want to do in the game. short term, long term, and stuff you can do in between so you dont get burnt out.
Elite in my mind is not dead, boring, empty, or pointless. The game is not for everyone, and each commander does their own thing. however if you have not already, i would strongly suggest finding a squad to fly with. They can teach you more, and make your day in space more entertaining than it ever would be flying alone.
Good luck in the Black commander. o7
So this game is pretty much a complete star citizen?
I tried playing this game like a year ago and this intro was not there. It just plopped me on a ship basically
13:19 this BULL SHIIIIII mechanic is why I stopped playing this game.
god i wish this was my first experience on elite dangerous, Odyssey should really be base game rather than DLC
Man I’m hurt I watched this and wanted to play it so bad so I bought it only to find out Odyssey is not coming to console
"I've seen some s***"
Censored
"Oh S***!"
Not censored
Congratulations with 699k subs! NICE
Elite is a spaceship game, always has been. instead of this foot add on they should have just focused on fleshing out the game and the massive galaxy they have. Now they have to focus on this out of ship stuff so the rest of the game i would imagine wont get much love anymore.
I think I prefer star citizen
This looks much more playable than my first experience with Odyssey.
As long as my rep and ships from Horizons transfer over I will definitely give it another try.
Gosh I can’t wait for Odyssey to come to Xbox!
definitely want to get this
"Stow your weapon, I'm warning you"
Pulls his weapon back out
Imagine he gets thargoid interdicted
These Space exploration games today look all way too similar and have way too similar mechanics. What happened to good game design, lived in places, believable surroundings, handcrafted small and detailed worlds, fresh ideas or even good ideas stolen? Nowadays, there are way too many big exploration games, which fell empty, souless and unimaginative.
Holy hell, you can leave your ship in ED now.
Is it on PS5?
Thank you for making this game more popular. Elite is really awesome
mass effect galaxy map ost
Love the Mass Effect music playing in the background.
So the game is an FPS shooting game actually on PC?
"like similar star Citizen" HAHAHAHAHAH
Back when I was in this game early on for Xbox One, I was hoping we'd get to this point.. fly around with my buddies, and then they announced discontinued support for console, even after the series X and PS5 came out.
I want to support console, but it seems like I should just move to PC..
Elite dangerous is great, i haven’t tried the Odessey version that adds the characters. The normal Elite Dangerous is only with spaceships and is the OG.
Threat level midnight
I want this now
Elite is fun, void of player interaction, poorly optimized, full of bugs, fun, really tedious, nice looking, and sometimes fun too. Star Citizen has ship interiors tho so… im just gonna play that
Damn someone actually took Elon Cornhusk from the npc
Is it ok ps4
Man, I have played this game way too much. It is crazy to see you try it out fresh with all the new content. You seem to have had a really good experience, compared to the old days! It’s a game with a lot to figure out, which is half the fun to me.
I see all the flaws these days, but you actually made me fall in love with the game again. Thanks for sharing!
LOL
how do I disembark because I'm on ps4 and I don't see the odyssey dlc in the store
I like your style 😉
I am also trying out different space-themed games in preparation for Starfield to come out. So far I've done No Man Sky, EVE Online, Outer Worlds, Subnautica (not space but still fun), and now I just started Elite Dangerous. I'm considering getting the Odyssey DLC and this video was very helpful in making that decision.
I poured hours into this game on PS4 and then the developer dropped console support. Frontier did not release Odyssey for console players. It was a huge kick in the nuts to people who supported their game.
so this was a fail compilation? on purpose?
0:30 HE IS COME BACK!
0:30 ah yes the greatest artist 🗿
I used to play ED before oddysey released and holy shit i didnt know it changed this much
No way you can walk around now! Last I played that was just a rumor!
i straight up thought this was destiny
Yo, just wondering if this video is really meant to attract people. Because this game looks aaaaaass!
Elite is fucking garbage.
