A topless protester interrupted Avril Lavigne onstage at the Juno Awards, prompting a bold confrontation. “Save the Greenbelt” was written on the woman’s body — a reference to a contentious land issue in Ontario. This episode revisits an earlier trip Andrew Chang took with Narwhal reporters Emma McIntosh and Fatima Syed to talk about why some critics say the ecological costs just aren’t worth it.

this body double of Avril cracks me up, many dont know she commited life ending in 2003, this body doubles face up close is hilarious…nice try hollyjoke
None of the homeless people that I worked with over the past 20 years will not be housed in any of these developments. It is all about MONEY!
Wow. I just watched a 12.5 min video that contained 10 and 1/2 minutes of puff with approx 2 minutes worth of actual journalism. Brutal.
Avril said what all the sane and hardworking Canadians wanted to say…
13 passenger van for three people? Nobody has an electric car?
avril lavigne didn't even sound excited to be introducing someone at the junos. she's a spoiled selfish brat who could care less about the environment, always has been, ask anyone who knew her before she got famous. whether she knew about the message of the protestor or not, her reaction would have been the same. she don't care as long as she's getting paid, and as long as it doesnt affect her bottom line or way of life. she is the epitome and definition of privileged.
Wait, wait… The JUNOS were the same weekend as the Academy Awards?!
California here to say: obvious shady politician is obvious >_>
Green belt ?? Everything goes better with concrete and asphalt…
Where the hell was security? Limp wristed Canadian attitude eh.
Think that it shows what a plastic person Avril Lavigne is.
If she had been a trucker, she would have been arrested, jailed and had her bank account frozen. Since she wasn't though, NOTHING happened to her.
No one disagrees that more housing needs to be built. However, opening up the Greenbelt to do it, when there is plenty of land available already, is not acceptable.
Doesn't Doug have enough money? Now his goomba buddies have made him an offer he can't refuse.
Stop urban sprawl!!!
When the money starts flowing into shell corps with the identities of the directors protected, that's when the magic happens. Money talks, bullshit walks.
Who cares about a couple of entitled Karen's having a cat fight?
we should save the green belt
🤣🤣🤣LOVED IT.
Ford said affordable housing – those look like a Million +. And Ford gets busted again Big Time a few times. 🤔🤣🤣🤣
Funny no peace protesters while we fund a war vs Russia but eco approved demos at Juno's where security would have saw this coming.
😂😂😂
The bank collapses were all started and caused by the feminists! They persuaded many women not to get breast implants in the valley! Now do you see what happens? I encourage all women to go topless tomorrow on the new TOPLESS day! Look out Avril Lavine! 😂
The issue is not housing supply lol. It's all about financialization and the rentier class dominating this late capitalist city. Governments can make all sorts of reforms to increase affordability and disincentive the moneyed class (including middle class as well) to invest their funds elsewhere.
SAVE THE GREENBELT
Who cares
That's why in big Canadian cities white women having problem getting a boy friend
I don't think anyone was against what this person was "protesting" just where and when they did it.
..DON'T TRUST Doug Ford ..or believe a single syllable he utters …FACT.
Isn't Doug ford opening the Greenbelt to help all his developer friends? I wonder, if Doug gets a kickback?
Doug Ford. Never ceases. 🙄🙄
The only solution to saving the Greenbelt and addressing housing affordability is densification. And it comes with a few other perks as well.
Replace single-family detached housing with mid-rise, mixed-use. Six stories, bottom two for commercial & offices, four stories above for residential. Sharply reduce parking requirements frees up still more space for mid-rise.
De-emphasize cars, push walkability, car-lite and car-free zones. Walkability promotes active transportation, more exercise and all the accompanying benefits. Less traffic noise. Less air pollution including less GHG emissions.
It can be done. It has been done. Amsterdam went from car-clogged in the 1960s to cycling and walking paradise today.
Theres no reason they should be building on the greenbelt, why not pass laws and zoning by laws that apartments have to be built above stores. Lots of places already have this. think about the amount of land space strip malls and places like Walmart and Costco take up, but they cram us into tiny apartments. It would also be great for businesses and reduce the need for transportation.
Did CBC News NOT invite Avril Lavigne because the protester had much more class on stage than she did – that is, if you choose to evaluate primates for their abilities in using language?!?
Bravo for your Doug Ford footage-montage!
It would have been nice to see Andrew wearing earmuffs out there in the cold! 😉
It is nice that housing is being considered for the homeless, but the best solutions are the commercial buildings that are empty and going to waste as a first choice – they are everywhere across Canadian cities – some are even closed down hotels!
Is there a reason that the real news-maker (the topless protester probably has a name!) was not invited to this episode? She could have worn a shirt, as really, for me, ladies who can both articulate their arguments, as well as walk-the-talk with courage, are the most attractive women of them all!
Finding the right balance in decision making has always been about developing an ecocentric-worldview, our over-abundant failed people-primate species has NEVER been the centre of the universe!
Professor-Marty.
PS The ladies wearing clothes (named Emma and Fatima) did a great job! 😉
I find a host swears on stage annoying and unprofessional
Loads of people have written letters and protested the development of the Greenbelt. It should NOT be developed and investigations regarding Doug Ford are underway. I'm glad for anything that brings attention to this issue and Lavigne shouldn't have reacted like this, but said, "Hell YES!!" But it stole her few minutes in the spotlight and that made her angry. Poor girl, lol. The Greenbelt is more important than her few minutes on stage.
This was probably planned because where was security?
If this was not planned then anyone could have jumped on the stage and caused harm to someone..
I think the government knows that they will simply never please the tree huggers, so rather than even waste their time trying, they will just move ahead with the real needs of the people. There is an awful lot of ground in Ontario that will never be built on, we will be fine.
Save the Greenbelt develop Hanlan's point/Billy Bishop.
