Wow Kurwa!! You discovered America 😂😂😂😂😂
How much of this gift was gifted? Was it a full-gift or semi-gift? It is good to know that all the bricks to construct this gigant were made in Poland. All those sandstone slabs that cover it or big sculptures in stone are from Polish quarries, all hand crafted chandelriers were done by Polish craftsmen. And russians rather did not pay for it. So if someone is making a cake for your birthday party from your own ingrediences it still could be a gift, but not the same one as if the cake is brought in already done. So in case of PKiN the real contribution was a labour work that russian workers did on site + a wooden village that was build to accommodate them. In total 144 buildings on 32 hectareas – would you treat it as a megaproject? All these were left apart to the Ministry of Education once the project was compleated in 1955. Named "Friendship Estate" and for decades it serves as housing for university teachers and students. Has its own charm. And as they brough it with pieces out of Poland (and other parts of Poland) to construct on site in Warsaw, this could be treated as a real gift.
I love how English speakers love to add unnecessary letters to words when pronouncing them.
"Pałac Kultury i Nauki" suddenly became "Palacz Kulturni i Naukni".
Yeah, PKiN suddenly because a smoker lmao
*Palacz means smoker in polish
Imagine that Germany denies to pay reperations for anihilation of Warsaw. There's one issue though crimes against humanity do not expire.
We have one of these in Bucharest too. I work there.
My grandma used to live not far from that place before the war. She could never get used to it after the war and didn't like it. She used to say only the village people who moved to Warsaw after the war admired it.
Should be demolished. Cursed totem of Soviet presence.
one can argue all day lomg. the point is demolishing it would be a technilogical, financial and logistical nightmare. no one that is at least barely sane would decide on that
In my opinion, it should be demolished as a symbol of the Soviet occupation. The more so that a hundred years ago, after regaining independence, Poles did not hesitate to demolish a much more beautiful building, which in tsarist times played the very same role: The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Warsaw.
what's sad so many poles are so very dumb that they think that we must destroy it anyway
Hope one day this „gift” one day would be replace by something more polish
As a polish person from Warsaw i love this building and it looks beautiful for me and our soviet time is still a part of our history if we like it or not
Russia should just have allowed Germany to exterminate that country before they moved in. Ungrateful turds.
The fact that there are people who want to demolish the most recognizable landmark of our capital because of their ideology is honestly saddening.
The irony of fate and the hihot of history is that there are 2 such monuments in Poland to symbolize domination over Poland. On the one hand, in Warsaw it is the ''Palace of Culture and Science'' and on the other hand, ''Imperial Castle of William II'' in Poznań. It was supposed to symbolize the rule over the lands of Poland. In 1939, immediately after the Wermacht entered Poznań, a decision was made that the castle would become Hitler's seat. Today, the castle is the seat of the University and the university library where the Polish nation forges its elites, the Palace of Culture and Science is a place where museums are located and scientific conferences have been held teaching successive generations of Poles that ''Freedom is not given to generations once and for all''!!!
For years there's been a debate whether we should demolish it or not in the name of this decommunismification of public space. We already topple monuments related to soviet union, we change the names of the streets from communist politicanians, but I think we should leave the palace. For one, it's nice, it's not ugly and for sure it is well known city's landmark. Secondly, the building itself does to manifest at all who built it and for what reason. Thw bulding itself is not the problem. The problem is how Poles think about. It's just to a bulding that still serves its purposes and if the soviets funded it, I see no reason why demolish it. If someone has got a problem with its origins, he should change his mindset. Another reason why it should be kept is that if anything, it's a good reminder about the past system that should never be reinstated.
THX Germeny best evil allies!!!
7:35 "Subtle" staining? "Off white cream?" I think you need a new monitor Simon.
As a Pole, Warsaw is c a n c e r, only rich people live there-
This thing is an eyesore. Not just because it's a Stalin's wedding cake. This kind of monumentalism just isn't in line with the culture. You can see it's not something Polish people would set up in this place. The guy talking about park with a pond expresses quite well what would happen if this project had not come to fruition.
Gift from nation from Polish stone and steel.. Ha ha.. nice gift.
1. Joke from 50's. "Do you like Palace of Culture? I don't know I have wife and children."
2. It was in 80's. Late communism. End of school year. I it was my idea. "gays let's go by foot up the stairs to thirtieth floor of Palace of Culture." we did. more then half of hour. And we saw clese door, simple chain and padloch, and people watching the city form observation deck behind the door. "eee…, let's go down one floor and take a lift." we did. There was open lift with woman, elevator operator inside. "Could you take us one floor up? No, but I take you down. It is military area."
3. We used to call this Beijing. Palace of Culture and Science = PKIN ~ Pekin (pol.) = Beijing (eng.)
4. You can see above east entrance (from Marszałkowska st) inscription carved in sandstone Palace of Culture and Science named of Joseph Stalin (Pałac Kultury i Nauki im. Józefa Stalina). It was hidden behind neon in late 60's I gess. Neons it is rare thing nowedays, so it gained some value itself by the way.
You are the best, so are your videos, period. More Poland Videos please! Maybe about the CPK transport hub?
This sad broken man was once standing tall.
Why you say Polish people hate it? We like it.
The PKiN has great architecture. I hat3 modern boring skyscrapers and postmodern so called "archictecture". I prefer art deco or classicism.
6:18 It is not a true, i know very well that many many people even historians or veterans who survived the Uprising are duplicating that myth, but it's just a myth nothing else. The Soviets did not stop their whole front for many many months because Poles started to fight with Germans in Warsaw. During July August and September of 1944 Germans had a huge battles with attacking Soviets at the east of Warsaw, during this weeks for example near Wołomin Soviets had to get into fight around 8 times (7 first attacks were failed). Polish historic Norbert Mączyk who has explored this issue for more than 20 years and readed many many Germans and Soviets documents explained that myth – Soviets joust did not care about the Uprising, they planned to get into Warsaw (and fight with Poles if it's needed) but the Germans defensive lines at the east of Warsaw were so very well prepared that they didn't make it…
