Nov. 20 is the opening day of the much anticipated FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The country is estimated to have spent roughly $229 billion on hosting the event, making it the most expensive World Cup ever, and more than four times as costly as all tournaments combined since 1990.
But aside from the honor involved with hosting the biggest soccer tournament in the world, it could draw massive exposure to a country: an influx of tourism, the potential for foreign trade, new development and jobs. For Qatar, the tiny Gulf country needed stadiums and infrastructure and used 1.7 million workers, 90% foreign, to help get the country ready.
The question remains, will the glory and questionable short- and long-term economic impacts outweigh the debt? Many experts say no.

Why Hosting The World Cup Is A Bad Idea For Countries
source
There's often two Agenda's involved in these massive projects, the first agenda is the one that sounds good, e.g building infrastructure, showcasing the country, creating 'good, well paid jobs', and of course Legacy (whatever that means). The second agenda is the real one, and it usually involves MONEY, lots and lots of MONEY, for just a relatively small number of people.
The slave labor used to build the venues and infrastructure was a human rights violation.
Qatar had foreign work force that were paid pennies for their hard labor and were forced to live in subhuman conditions!!
The only people benefiting from a World Cup are the FIFA scums & the corrupted politicians.
You can't listen to these infomercials. They indoctrinate you.
If a country doesn't have the infrastructure then of course hosting a game of this magnitude would be problematic…
Ohh shut up
Brazil only did it for the corruption money with contractors to fund the left wing political party at the time in power. So they could stay in power for eternity!
Most of the 220 Bn is just bribe money. This is dumb.
Let's keep having in Qatar. Best world cup yet.
It's funny how the end conclusion of the premises of this video is that only rich developed countries should host. I mean what would you expect of a murica news channel.

You cannot just give money to the people because it DISSAPEAR. What you need to fo is to invest the money, provide jobs and get more money to do the cycle again. Something the comunist, do not want to understand.
Bohhho
Still better than spent 100 billions for war in Ukraine.
Notice how they never made a video like this when the Olympics were in America?
Who’s idea was for the USA to host the World Cup in 2026

And stopped watching at this part. Nothing but pathetic virtue signaling and BS allegations to defame Qatar.
Wait ihave that ball on the thumbnail in my home it has the same fifa qatar World cup 2022 logo
I can't wait for the 2026 World Cup when the United States is gonna host it along with Canada and Mexico. I honestly think this will be so successful faithfully begging for Canada Mexico in the United States to do this again. I could see it happening again every 12 to 16 years.
FIFA World Cup and olympics are both huge waists of money and should be in one place
Only in Ohio country
Its ok QATAR is rich even if the World Cup was operated at a NET LOSS due to the restrictions on alchohol etc, its still an honor to be one of the few Asian Countries to host one. and since it comes around every 4 years its not an opportunity that will come around easily.
Hosting the FIFA World Cup is just like hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Olympics & World Cup should have a permanent host country–the USA. You've got infrastructure not just for every team, but for every athlete. There's stadiums big and small spread out across 3,000 miles in 50 states, for every one of them and their trainers & staff too. What's so hard about this? Put it here, problem solved. USA all the way
This "documentary" reeks more of political propaganda than anything else. Heavily under researched and dubious figures presented as facts. No mention as what these "experts" interviewed involvements in football-soccer is other than a guy who played midfield for the US in 2014.
Add the inflation to the count.
It 's not logical to compare the badhet of 1994 to 2018
Western Hisprocracy level 💯
Qatar Was The Very Best… Execellent..South Africa Really??Get Your Facts Right
It's not a bad idea if the countries that host world cup already have stadiums.. and hotels to hold people
Pa
Get your facts right
229b is probly under reported. They might have ended up spending over 500b. And despite all of that, they still didn't pay their workers who built their stadiums. Pathetic.
In the words of President Trump
" CNBC = FAKE NEWS"
$229B?!?!? Damn!!!! I knew that hosting the Olympics was expensive, but the World Cup is just as bad?!?!? 😳😳😳😳😳😳
Western country is SATANIC
The U.S is basically meets these requirements
United States spends trillions of dollars on war but its media criticizes Qatar for hosting a world show piece
епт, нельзя так п####ть на весь мир про сносы стадионов, клоуны лживые!
The stadium used to host the first game of 2014 world cup is now the home ground of Corinthians, one of the biggest South American Soccer clubs. It's used more than the NFL stadiums.
Building stadiums is always scam and corruption. The world does not need stadiums.
