This is a real eye opener, before this we think duke is a selfish a-hole who doesn't care about anyone but himself, when in reality he was sad, lonely and still hurt from losing him at a young age and his father neglecting him to fight mosters and vampires as his way of dealing with grief and moving on not caring how it was effecting duke at all. It just goes to show theirs more to a person that meets the eye.

  3. How much you want to bet Duke's mom was killed by a Vamp, hence his father being obsessed with killing them. But Duke doesn't realise this and infects himself to get his father's attention. Also notice the axe his father gets to kill vamps is the same one Missy used to cut off Duke's thumb. Love the work keep it up. On the edge of my seat waiting for the next one

  6. I'm going to guess the next one is going to be "Say my Name" with whatever is powering the cane standing in for BJ with an angsty freshly turned teenage Duke, ala the "Raised by Bats" flashabck.

  8. Was it intentional that Duke's dad has the same violet outline like Missy's? Maybe hinting that Missy already had vampiric blood in her, considering that she very quickly transformed into one in and her urge to enter the house duribg the pilot.

  14. I see a lot of comments here discussing the story, and that's great as well, but I can't believe more people aren't commenting about the ANIMATION!! The animation in this one is just phenomenal in so many ways! And the timing to the music!! It's just perfect! I think my favorite detail is how every time little Duke walks through the scenes it's specifically to this one type of beat through the music. That is such masterful technique, it's a cute little noticeable beat but it's also used so smartly to move the character through the set pieces!! Also, little Duke's design is so cute, it's really hard to make a design with sharp shape language like that cute! Well done!!

  15. I wanted to cry while watching this, poor Duke!

    I just realized that in a lot of those Photos Duke is performing in "girly" sports and excelling at them but when it comes to more "masculine" sports he is fearful. I really wouldn't be too surprised if its father didn't kill his mother, perhaps you thought that she was making him "feminine". I just can't shake the feeling that I think Duke's father has something to do with his mother's death.

  17. Yeah, given this I can see a narrative Duke might see vampiracy as some sort of act of rebellion against his dad. Or a way of trying to get hid attention–if he only has interest in vampires, then he would definitely have interest if his own son became one. Though not really in a good way.

  20. I feel like a ass for pointing this out but when duke says missy stab his mom it shouldn't have been possible because missy shouldn't have been alive when she died unless duke is like 19

  23. So he's my going on this his mom died & his dad wife died, so they moved in the cemetery because that's where she's buried. Plus, if u see towards the end, he opens a pocket watch, and the reason he's killing vampires is because she was probably killed by vampires and that' the way of the husband Grieving. Which the son doesn't know that . To the son, it doesn't look like he's is grieving, but the husband is in his own way, and that's by killing vampires.

  32. Очень приятно и интересно узнавать прошлое Дюка, и понимать, каким он был до становления вампиром, ведь так объясняется его поведение при первой встрече и в предыдущих эпизодах. Кстати, хорошая отсылка на книгу про вампиров из прошлого эпизода — вполне возможно, что отец Дюка сам её написал, взяв название из статьи в газете. Но это теория)

  36. Fantastic animation and song choice as usual, keep up the killer content! It would be cool to see a flash back with baby Duke's mom when she was around. A cool song choice could be Voltaire's song "Goodnight Demon Slayer", because it would show how she tried to comfort Duke and show the supernatural targeting the family due to his father monster hunting work.

  38. Sometimes you watch something that just resonates… this song is one I have practiced over and over but never have I seen the emotions expressed so well. Lover of animation here as well so to see such amazing expression work just makes me all !!!!!!❤.
