From their bases in western China, one of the most famous military units in history, the Flying Tigers, changed the course of the Second World War. Some say that their presence in the Far East led to Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. For six months, from December 1941 to June 1942, they provided crucial last ditch aerial defence of China. Only fragments of their story have been told – until now.

My uncle, Capt. Isidore James Schwartz choreographed the battles for the Flying Tigers.
Intro says "Washington D.C."
Shows NYC…
My Grandfather was a flying tiger. I keep looking for him in all of the photos. He died only a few years ago, but I will always think of him as a hero. 💜
I am very fascinated with these video. They are very informative and interesting. I like especially the videos on the war. It really brings it home to what it was really like back then and hopefully the mistakes that were made would be remembered and not repeated. What amazing stories. Especially when that pilot 20 years later met the young boy who pulled him to safety. We will never know just how much these people were so grateful for the help. Thank you for telling us this history.
Such weird quality on this video. The narrator is a tad off, and all the Americans sound like they're on a webcam.
Read the book, awesome.
The only thing good about China is Americans
An extremely great film well thought out and filmed and thoughtfully put out during these times is pure genius
The sheer amount of interviews of those who fought and lived during that time is amazing. To find those who lived it and hear their stories was an honor.
I want people to understand they were supporting the CHINESE NATIONALISTS (who eventually had to flee to TAIWAN) NOT the Mao Led communists who participated in 2 battles throughout the war from 1937 – 1946. Not until the 1970s did the USA start supporting the CCP by destroying manufacturing in the USA and allowing them to steal our technology.
Why was footage of charging soldiers blurred? This is 🐮 💩
Chennault ‘s executive officer was movie producer Merian Cooper. Famous for his movies especially “King Kong”, but also a military veteran. This was his third war, WWI, the Polish-Bolshevik War (1921-22), as well as the Vila campaign.
Cooper planned a majority of the operations for the group and would also go along. Tex Hill mentions protecting Cooper who was in the lead B-25 during the raid on Hong Kong. Chennault, Hill and Cooper remained friends after the war. Cooper earned his star to Brigadier General after the war due to his excellent performance in 3 commands.
Hill’s first P-51 was an Allison powered A model. The general in charge of logistics for China sent used aircraft to Chennault’s forces. Some pilots recognized the very aircraft that they trained on. Hill mentioned it in a meeting with Marshall. It was rectified after the documents verified the aircraft transfers. I don’t know what happened to that logistics officer but that was criminal.
Cooper’s promotion to Brigadier General didn’t occur until Marshall became Secretary of State as he was in Marshall’s black book, regardless of excellent evaluations.
What I don't understand is, why did China back N Korea in 1950s, when US helped them against Japan, and may have even cost them many lives in Pearl Harbor?… it's like China's a backstabbing, unfaithful, and disloyal friend…
'Unsung heros" ? Are you kidding,? Anyone involved or even slightly interested in planes, war, or history knows about these guys and their shark nosed P40's. Heros? You bet! Unsung? I think not!
Look at how the Americans worked with china. Vs how the my treat china now. It’s so sad USA needs flip flopping their policies on working with china to better mankind
