I love vice
I used to love Marvel but their story lines and narratives are garbage now. I recently read Berserk and I've come to the realization that manga is superior in every way.

OMG blade really did save marvel, lol. I always thought that blades movie importance was overstated, but nope.

Marvel didn't pioneer crossovers or a shared Universe LOL mystery writers were already doing that in the 1800s and if you really wanna stretch it humans were doing that with religion and mythology since time immemorial.

It took Marvel awhile before it learned how to walk as evident from it's early "movies" but once it got it's legs no one could imagine the unstoppable juggernaut it would become!!
And can the assembled talking heads and staff of this entire documentary give any credit to Jack Kirby and the other assorted creators who get less than nothing other than a begrudging gesture? Disney and Marvel's other corporate owners need to preserve the enjoyable myth of gregarious Stan as the geek godfather and preserve Marvel's crooked narrative- I'm used to it from other media but am disappointed by VICE. When your primary historian is a guy in a comic book cover collage shirt, dig harder. Martin Goodman wondered what would happen when characters got together? No mention of Carl Burgos & Bill Everett who actually did it? Incidentally, it wasn't 1939- it was 1940 when those Golden Age characters crossed over. Stan was an Editor who dialogued existing stories. Marvel assured him as the creator for their legal intellectual property protection and he went with it as fame and notoriety were his only aspirations; there are over 55 recorded instances of Stan saying how much he didn't like comics and didn't read them.
UGH once more the disproven and old BS comes out again. Guys, Stan's wife never told him that. He says it early on in a documented interview in 1972 where he said he was complaining and Joan Lee got frustrated and said "when are you going to realize this is permanent?"- quite a departure from this encouraging "do it your way!" advice.
Secondly, Jack created the CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN for DC before he went to Marvel, but look how the people try to make him lesser in passing "he hadn't had a success in 20 years!", etc. The Challengers of the Unknown were 4 people who went up in a rocket ship and wore matching uniforms. One story had them going into space and coming back with fantastic powers… it's evident that Jack just re-worked the CHALLENGERS for the FF. Propaganda wins out again instead of just telling the more interesting true story! LOL 😂😂😂

I was actually under the impression that Kirby and Simon just did not get paid enough and asked for more money and Goodman said no so they left. Never heard they moonlighted for DC…?
