nice video, presents several sides to discussion, well done!
Here is some more info:
Vulcan Asteroids? – between Sun and Mercury, none found because of Sun's glare.
=
Mercury & thin co-orbital dust ring, but no Trojan (yet found).
=
Vatiras/źAylóźchaxnim asteroid ābelt/mantleā between Venus and Mercury
2020 AV2/ 594913 źAylóźchaxnim asteroid [Stony-type] ā only one so far.
=
Venus & co-orbital dust ring & trojan 1L4 (2013 ND15){L4 is a point 60 degrees ahead of a planet orbit around which point a trojan circles/ālibrationsā; L5 is 60 degree behind.}
Venus-crosser asteroid (524522) 2002 VE68, Venus'sĀ quasi-satellite/Aten asteroid {quasi-satellites seem to far orbit a planet, but appear to circling it because of Sunās orbital mechanics as they both go around the Sun}
=
23 Atires asteroids in ābeltātotally between Venus and Earth
=
Earth & co-orbital dust ring & 18 co-orbitals: 2 trojans (2010 TK7)(2020 XL5), 2 L4 0L5; 12 in horseshoe orbits; 5 as quasi-satellites. Earth's 5 quasi-satellites (164207) 2004 GU9, (277810) 2006 FV35, 2013 LX28, 2014 OL339, 469219 Kamoʻoalewa.
=
NEA=Near-Earth asteroidsĀ (includingĀ 99942 Apophis)(86+ with satellites, 30,500+ without)
Atira asteroids which do NOT cross Earth orbit, but may cross Venusā
Earth-crosser asteroids such as: Atens with majority of orbit inside Earth, only a little outside, & often cross Venus and Mercury orbits, also Apollos with orbit mostly outside Earthās orbit, cross Earth orbit, & often cross Venusā orbit. Moreover there are unclassified other crossing asteroids.
(136617) 1994 CC is an Apollo with 2 satellites.
Amors asteroids totally nearly ātouchā Earth orbit and often cross Marsā orbit (or donāt), sometimes into the main belt; this includes Alinda asteroids subgroup. Amor asteroids are the ābeltā between Mars and Earth.
3122 Florence and (153591) 2001 SN263 are Amors with 2 satellites each.
=
NEC=Near Earth Comets 100+ objects in a near-Earth orbit with a tail or coma, starting from Kuiper Belt or further out.
=
Mars & big thick co-orbital dust ring & 14 trojans 1 L4, 13 L5. {The thick Marian dust ring and other dust of the Main Asteroid Belt reflect zodiacal light which can be seen on Earth sometimes.}
Mars-crosser asteroids, one such 2577 Litva has 2 satellites, there are 30 more with one satellite.
=
Hungaria group asteroids between Mars and Main Asteroid Belt. In both resonance with Mars and Jupiter.
=
Asteroid Belt covered in this video
=
Jupiter co-orbital: 3 horseshoe (ql, Larsen, sa), 10,000+ (1.6 times as many)greeks & (1x)trojans – largest 624 Hektor {about the size of 10th largest main belt asteriod}[red d-type], also quasi-satellites asteroids (qq, aee) & comets(ar, wc, wcs). Trojan Polymele has a satellite and Trojan Eurybates has its satellite Queta.
Jupiter-crosser asteroids – few.
Jupiter-family comets (comets that orbit near Jupiter never much in, never much out)
=
Saturn co-orbital 1 horseshoe (2013 VZ70), 0 trojans. {because Jupiter's gravity disrupts trojans}.
Saturn-crosser asteroids/objects/comets
=
Uranus & trojans 2 L4, also a temp horseshoe co-orbiter 83982 Crantor L3,
Uranus-crosser asteroids/centaurs/comets
=
Centaurs about 500+ scattered objects {classified as neither asteroids nor comets} of D-type (low albedo and a featureless reddish spectrum) or red tholin composition that are more icy than asteroids, with characteristics of both asteroids and comets, with unstable orbits between the outer planets, outside Jupiterās orbit and out to Neptune orbits, where a few cross; but the majority are between Saturn and Uranus; the largest examples are:
asteroid 2060Ā Chiron or comet 95P/Chiron {arguments about what it is} (with possible rings?) & bunched family of objects in similar orbit. Centaurs: Chiron,Ā 60558 Echeclus, andĀ 166P/NEAT 2001 T4 have shown comet type comas.
Largest object 10199Ā Chariklo {about the size of Jupiter Trojan 624 Hektor or the size of 10th largest main belt asteroid} with 2 known rings called Oiapoque and ChuĆ with probable shepard moons.
=
Periodic comets 436+ (mostly inside Neptune orbit) such as Haleyās & Extinct Comets (look like asteroids but comet like orbit)
=
Damocloid asteroid/Oort cloud group 200+ (extinct-comet [although some have re-awoken!] orbit like Oort cloud comet but closest outside Uranus) , NO red tholins.
=
Manx Comet (glowing head but no tail often from trans Neptune object maybe from Oort cloud?)
=
Neptune & 28-29 co-orbital trojans (found 24 at L4 and 4 at L5), quasi-satellite (309239) 2007 RW10.
Neptune-crosser asteroids
=
Kuiper belt has far more objects than the Asteroid Belt and a bunch of Dwarf planets. Many smaller object of d-type or red tholin composition, 122+ found to have satellites.
=
Scattered disc beyond Kuiper belt, various scattered objects, no belt. 2 dwarf planets with moon.
=
Termination shock where the Solar Wind slows and get hot again in a traffic jam & solar magnetic field fragments. Location shifts with Sun output.
=
Heliosheath a mix of galactic material with the Solar Wind & magnetic field pieces. This can also change size and shape, right now we think it is a croissant shape due to jets from the Sun's poles.
=
Heliopause where the solar wind stops.
=
Bow Shock where the galactic stuff hits the Solar system as the System plows around the galaxy .
=
Local Fluff/local interstellar cloud an emission nebula made of hot diffuse plasma with magnetic fields and neutral atoms, maybe remnant of a super nova or a star creation nebula long ago and far away, crossing Sun's and other local star's orbits, leaving the Milky Way.
(There may be an other shock wave/sphere end somewhere, since the Magnetic field did not change since Heliopause)
=
Detached Objects/Extended Scattered Disc ObjectsĀ (E-SDO)/Distant Detached Objects (DDO)/ScatteredāExtended Objects ā various names, objects whole closest approach is only affect by the Sun, little or no Neptune effects. Dwarf planet Sedna.
=
expected Oort cloud? Broken into 2: Inner Oort/Hills torus with more comets & Outer Oort cloud with less comets. But it has not been seen yet.
=
The most recent closest known approach of another star is small red M-dwarf Scholtzās star (with a brown dwarf/giant Jupiter) passed by 1 ly at 80,000 years ago inside outer Oort cloud area. Possible comets disturbed into the inner Solar System need 2 million years to enter, so no rush.
Stay out the belt, inner.
OPA
Awesome!
A 'Whistle-Out' to Whistler~
There is an eye but a thing on this planet that I would. Would do or would have done if I so had been able to delay my birth until such a time that I could look up in the stars at the sky. And seat lights not just. Not just from stars but also from cities on asteroids
We could aggregate it into Ceres creating a 9th planet no doubt.
The denser iron would (as it piles up) heat up the icey world causing the ice crust to melt…the iron to sink to the core…
Add in a bunch of radioactive materials to help keep the 'core' hot and molten and you'd have a potentially very Earth-like planet quite literally right next door.
Outside gathering enough radioactive material needed (prob just dumping the moon IO into Ceres), we could actually accomplish this entirely with current tech: albeit slowly over 1000yrs or so. Different models have different projections on how long it'd take for such a planet to 'cool' so the rocky surface solidifies, but we could use different techniques to speed it up so it maybe only takes an additiional 1000yrs.
So that 4200 AD (200yrs of building) there'd be a thriving population of 100s of millions with giant farmland tracts, animals, the whole works on the planet.
Belters are the worst. š¬
He did say bear moth like usual lol
Simon looks like Vsauce if he's sane.
The sound of this video is low š. Love the channel š
This is why hostile aliens could easily wipe us out. They could launch a couple of these at earth and call it a day.
Even Uranus ššššš
WUT???
have to stop it now after 11 minutes of "hiz hiz ziz hiz" etc – can't understand shit
check the audio before uploading !
I could go for a Jupiter Trojan video.
I haven't seen one of your videos in a minute but this popped in my feed– the beard game is strong <3
2:45 Hours of boredom punctuated by moments of extreme terror? It only takes a little one to spoil your whole day. LoL
Was watching this video as a row of videos suggested from your channel, but had to crank up the sound to hear something.
Hyperinformative video nonetheless – as always – but the sound was somewhat quiet compared to the last ones. next video killed my ears from the start cause i still had the sound turned up so much from this vid š
At this point Simon has enough channels to start his own streaming service
When are we gonna get space-o-graphics
You state that the number of discovered asteroids (1.113 million) is āa mere fractionā of those that actually exist, estimated number 1.9 million. By those numbers more than half of the asteroids (nearly 60%) have been discovered, leaving 40% still to be recorded; a fraction, certainly, but not what I would call a āmereā fraction.
Love the Hitchhikers Guide reference at the beginning.
The Asteroids in the main Asteroid belt are not leftovers at all. They are intergalactic travelers that got caught up in the gravity of the sun. they collided with a planetary body and ripped it apart. That collision stalled Jupiter in its path. over the years more and more interstellar travelers got caught up in the belt.
Psyche is the most scifi sounding thing ever omg
How were the pyramids built? Verify everything at the bottom of the Mariana's trench? Do this..and maybe then you will convince me that we should be spending one dollar on space anything.

āEven Uranus is haunted by a pair of these cosmic butt gremlinsā š
What will simonās writers think of next š¹
7:05 this and the next are so amazingly great I love it haha
12:57 what if we look inside maybe we could find new materials or a brand new type of radioactivity in the core of the asteroid? because it was trapped in the asteroid? we could find the early ressemblance of the radioactivity we have today and it could help us understand how suns form themselves perfectly?
Nice opening! Simonās a frood who really knows where his towel is.
