In this clip, Chris Herren recounted his first arrest which occurred just after overdosing. He then talked about the ways in which meth was the worst drug he’s taken and how it takes the user down much faster than other hard drugs due to the sleep deprivation. Chris also discussed the work he’s done since being sober as of August 1, 2008.

You can tell he still fighting them demons 🙏🏽

Alcohol is a serious problem . 19:19
Vlad should’ve did this interview
Interview of the year
I’ve been “sober” for almost 10 years.. I’ve been on suboxone for almost 10 years now and I just need to kick it but I’m terrified too.. I’m glad Chris is sharing his thoughts with me bc if he can do it I think I can
Crystal Meth is such a strong drug that can crack the strongest of minds. Have seen that several times
I watched espn documentary and was on opiates it made me change my life 6 years clean with child 3 years old. I knew what he was going thru I was him for years
I know exactly what Chis is talking about. One of the times I OD’d and was brought back. I woke up in the hospital bed and they had given me Narcam which puts you in instant withdrawals because it kicks all the dope from your receptors off. I only had a hospital gown on and didn’t know where my clothes were so the dude in the room with me because there was this curtain type thing that you could slide divided the room I noticed that he had some clothes laying on a chair and slides, flip flops,on the ground underneath the chair and he was asleep. I got up and went into the bathroom with his clothes and put them on. My wife and my mom were downstairs getting me food from the cafeteria so I knew that I had a very limited time to get out of there. I snuck out of the hospital and called a few of my dealers, whoever got there the quickest got the money , and I got high because I was so sick. But even being in the hospital where I was clinically dead for a few minutes this time didn’t deter me from getting high. You just don’t care. All you care about is getting high. Plus especially with opiates you build such a quick tolerance that I hadn’t gotten high in years at that point. I was just maintaining and not getting sick. You don’t even really get high anymore. If you have ever been addicted to opiates you know what I’m talking about. Addiction is a BEAST and it takes your soul away. I’ve been clean for over a decade now and I’m very grateful that I am. I’ve lost a lot of friends and I mean a lot but you just get numb to that also which is messed up but it’s what it is. I would not wish addiction especially opioid addiction on anyone. It’s so brutal. If you are struggling with addiction there is help out there. Get yourself clean because that life sucks. I went to over a dozen rehabs and they never worked for me because I didn’t want to quit. But when I finally had enough what worked for me was Ibogaine and DMT. It had the highest success rate. AA ,NA or 12 step programs have a under 10% success rate which isn’t good. The odds are definitely not in your favor but it ultimately falls on you and how bad you want it. It’s going to be one of the hardest things you will ever do but trust me it’s completely worth it. If you have tried rehabs and a traditional treatment and they have not worked I highly highly recommend Ibogaine and DMT. I even quit smoking cigarettes that same day. The Ibogaine/DMT just completely rewires your brain and you have zero cravings or thoughts of ever getting high again. To me it’s a miracle cure.
There is no one in this world i look up to more, and see myself in than Chris Herren. We look alike, same story (i wasn’t as successful in basketball), same type of big brother, same charisma. This man is an angel.
Are you nuts lol wait till this market crumbles because it's coming
Gotta respect this guy as an athlete who made it to the pros while struggling with addiction but more so as a person who changed his life for the better. I saw the doc on him a while back and think it did his story a lot more justice with all due respect to VladTV and Coach PR. Also good to hear the Celtics looked out after he got sober
thats the one that walks you slow
❤ I feel like that all the time thank you so much
I was high school close to Fresno watching this guy and that loaded Fresno State team every game all our friends would get together for the games. His press conference with Tark hurt to watch!! Him and Courtney Alexander Rafer Ely Terrance Roberson were bigger than life!! When I read he OD in the Fresno Bee it broke me!! Fast forward 20 yrs later the mother of my children got hooked on pills and had to go to rehab, we weren’t together anymore but I supported her through it and she told me they played Chris’s unguarded for them and it was a different feeling in the room after! His life’s calling was something different even though he’s one of the best college hoopers I watched live!!
1 day at a time my boy that’s only way to live
I wish the interviewer would speak up! And…take some interviewing classes…maybe read a book or 2…
She chose you because you have a good soul and you are humble…..God likes that!
Dang, you can hear the pain and sadness in his voice as he recalls those moments. Like he was dying a thousand deaths. Thankfully he's well today. 😢
