Between the sum and the label (e.g. ATK) there is an icon showing if you are lower than the enemy. Please look there. And yes, I am an engineer so I didn't find this too interesting until the boss.

NL, there are little symbols next to your attack and defense numbers that let you know if you break their defense and if they break your defense, so you don't have to do the math in your head.
this was ungodly frustrating. and if he didn't buy the game i'd say it was the usual trope streamers do to get us to buy the game. by triggering our egos saying "i'd not do that". but yes, so frustrating.
