ICON Park Free Fall death: Teen killed by fall from Florida amusement park ride | LiveNOW from FOX

A 14-year old boy fell to his death while riding the Free Fall ride at Orlando’s ICON Park. The park claims the ride is “the world’s tallest freestanding drop tower” at 430 feet high. Reports from witnesses say the teen was at the top of the ride when he fell.

  1. Can someone please explain to me WHY on earth there wasn't one of those seatbelt buckles that snaps between the legs to bottom of the shoulder harness bars to hold it down in case it fails??!! Most all rides I have been on have this secondary safety measurement in place. So wouldn't it stand to reason to have this for a ride that LITERALLY TILTS DOWN TOWARDS THE GROUND right when it begins the free fall?! All of your weight, in that moment, is pushing down on that shoulder harness and, if you're heavy enough, then it is liable to break. I watched the video ONLY to get a clue as to how this could have happened because the former US Army MP in me wanted to know if the ride attendant just didn't lock it in place at all. I have witnessed many stomach turning things while I served but that sound of his body hitting the ground will not leave my mind atm. I think he shouldn't have been allowed on the ride at all. Better to hurt his feelings than take his life. The attendant should have just said no when the shoulder harness bars were sticking out on the boy's body like they were. I could see that with my own eyes and, had I been standing there, I would have made a scene over that and come unglued until a manager showed up. I'm sorry, but Final Destination has some truths…sometimes, you just see when death is about to happen and that was quite clear in this case. RIP, Tyre, and I hope you are playing football in heaven as we speak.

  2. If that was my child that died the amusement park would’ve been sued for everything they have plus interest that’s a million dollar case and they probably had young teenagers controlling the ride at the time how did or do I know we would’ve found out in court

  3. this is not entertainment and should not be shared so insensitively on social media. harrowing footage of a young life ended too soon. a real person with real family and friends that will be deeply affected

  4. Anyone in they right mind knows every ride has a weight limit he’s a child yeah and he probably wasn’t thinking about his safe or wanting to get off but parent needs to teach all their kids about safety and knowing how to be safe it’s okay to be a child but it’s time to teach them young about using their brain. Close them ride down

  5. For gaad's sake!! Can't the kid read?? Sign says: "NO BLACK BOYS ON THIS RIDE!!!" They're very explicit about that! The pigment of their skin causes them to slip thru the safety harness right at the highest point! The ride then becomes, well, a modern-day LYNCHING!!! They tried to sand it down, but it didn't work. So they just put up a fkkn' sign! Latinos? Okay! Chinese? Okay! Indonesian? Ok! But Blackies??? Heh heh heh, do yourselves a big-time favor – STAY ON THE KIDDIE CARS OR FEED THE GIRAFFES, AND LIVE!!! YES! CANCEL CULTURE KILLS, & IT'S COMIN' AFTER YOOOOOO!!!! UH HUH!!

  6. The young man may have been too big to ride. He was 6'5" and 340 pounds. The maximum weight per rider was apparently 287 lbs according to the manual and the teen was clearly heavier than that. It's not the first time an overweight/obese person has died or gotten seriously injured from a ride (that could have possibly been avoided if they just didn't ride). These rules should be enforced and people should stop looking at it as a form of discrimination if they are not allowed to ride.

  8. The best way to honor this baby’s death is to be honest about what happened!!! He didn’t die at the hospital he died as soon as he hit the ground!!! And the cause IS known!!! And I myself will be getting in touch with the DA to start an investigation so the ride operator can be prosecuted

  9. I have a son the same age and used to have a love of these kind of rides. I remember the exact moment I chose never to go on any big rides again .Sat down ,safety harness came down and then we set off ,within seconds. No staff checking it was secure, no time to check I felt secure, it just set off. I was terrified and as it was one of the last rides of the night it was clear they just hadn't bothered properly and wanted to go home quickly. They Were all very young employees. Thankfully my son was as horrified as me and we both have been put off for life. That boy with his whole life ahead of him, my heart breaks for him and his family

  10. I couldn’t imagine being the person responsible for operating this. I would be be checking to make sure everyone’s harness is secured surely at least twice. Did they even check at all? Also for a ride that tips forward so high in the air, what insanity is it to not have rider wear a backup seatbelt just in case a harness malfunctions. Prayers for this boy and his family

  11. Want answers? He should have been checked by attendant. He was not video clearly shows that. The ride attendant knew it, but felt bad maybe. Video shows him steering at that seat bc the restrain was high up but occupied. There should be 3 light, Red, yellow, green. Also a good old seat belt. The ride manufacturer Fun Time Rides, states it's not needed. Well a seat belt would of kept the teen from sliding out due to his basketball shorts. The mesh slippery material, hard polished plastic seats, and the huge gap from restraint to seat. The 30 degree tilt on seat, the G Force with his weight, let this teen slip right out. A seat belt would have saved his life.

  12. You’d think that after the 40+ years that theme parks have been around that safety would be considered a must in most places. I watched an interview with someone who witnessed this and he said that there weren’t secondary restraints like some roller coasters have. That is mind blowing! You have a ride that stands at a height that will kill anyone yet you don’t have extra safety measures to prevent this from happening? My thoughts go to the family😞 but the reason why this infuriates me is because we have had accidents like this on rides before. ANY ride, regardless of speed or altitude, can become dangerous if proper safety measures aren’t put in place and the ride isn’t inspected every time before people get on.

  13. To make this simpler to grasp, imagine if the vehicle that you drive only has seatbelts as a safety measure. Plenty of people die in car crashes despite having seatbelts and airbags. This is no different. The only difference is that you’re at a dangerous altitude and going at dangerous speeds which honestly makes it more mandatory to put as much safety measures in place as possible to avoid deaths/injuries and face lawsuits as a result.

  15. He had not gone on several other rides that day bc of the weight limit. He got on this- you see him saying it’s not closing… he stayed on the ride.

The park isn’t at fault he is. He knew he was way too big to be on most of those rides. Had the ride operator booted him he would have been called a racist body shamer I GUARANTEE he would have had his life ruined being recorded “shaming an obese black kid” Ride operators are damned if they do damned if they don’t

  16. My daughter almost slipped out of one of those spinning top rides before. I had to hold her down with all my might. Because the locking mechanism did not work. I never rode them again. I stop going to those things altogether. Your life is not worth the risk. Rest easy young one. My condolences to the family.
