Digging it
"Messy kills" is the slow-mo scene that sometimes triggered when the a character killed either a Darkspawn ogre or got on top the head a dragon to execute it.
lol Fenris is intense, especially if he gets taken to many mage quests early on, and the rivalry system is kind of weird. I think the big rivalry in his home you got is based just on not choosing the perfect comebacks to his speeches that devs decided bring certain points. which is kind of silly because you had nice conversation wither way.. but overall he's just the type that takes longer to warm up, guy has some serious trauma from the past and if you talk with him a lot and do his personal quest in the future that can all still be turned into friendship.. if you will want to of course.
regarding upgrades for your companions….. since you asked, it is highly recommended to check every shop especially the Diamond (other) category. they pop up on different stages of the game and are easy to miss. others you find looting in special areas or completing specific quests. Have fun discovering ๐
Girl with all that "rivalry" points you could have a steamy romance with fenris
Just know that rivalry isnt necessarily a bad thing. Hell, some rivalry paths are straight up better than the alternative.
Are Hawke and Fenris heading for a good ole' fashioned Rival/Romancing? Yelling at each other and making love like the characters in a telenovela?
Materwelonz: Being her usual concillatory self
Fenris: >:(
The way that Friendship and Rivalry works many times is that it becomes cumulative. If you already have Rivalry points with someone, even casual conversations and flirts give you more Rivalry points. Had you accrued Friendship points to begin with, you'll just continue to pile up Friendship points.
Ps. Fenris sucks
As others have mentioned "rivalry" is not the same as "disapproval" in Origins – it's more a reflection on whether or not you share the same views. Some rivalries in the game are better than others, and they don't stop you from romances. What you should avoid is the middle, it signifies indifference.
I don't think it's a spoiler to mention that this game is a bit less… forgiving regarding romances. Casual flirting like you did with Fenris is fine and won't lock out other options, but if you start taking things further with some of the romance options they will lock you into it.
Seems like you're getting the hang of combat by now, but it might be worth mentioning. As a dual-wielding rogue, you are equipped and quite adept at quickly taking down a single high value target, like that slaver mage. Some of your activated abilities, like Backstab, will automatically close the gap to your target. and then you have a few VERY high damage activated abilities, like Twin Fangs, and more later on, to take them out of the fight.
I can barely remember most of the story details for DA2 since I last played it over a decade ago, but I have no idea why I remember Danzig so clearly.
again its worth mentioning that rivalry is not a bad thing. A high friendship indicates that your ideals align and companion is supportive of you while a high rivalry means you disagree with each other but they still respect you. Achieving 50% in either friendship or rivalary will unlock special blue or red abilities for that particular companion.
This playthrough is becoming my "I hope I made it home in time to watch this show" content recently xD Keep up the good work!
So, I few things about the mages that I've interpreted.
Anders is not an apostate, as he was conscripted by the Grey Wardens as a Warden himself he would be free to roam safe from any Circle of Magi. Even though he's not with the Wardens anymore.
Meryl could be safe as well as she is not a city elf, but a Dalish elf, don't know for sure, but I think they would not be necessarily held by human/ferelden law. Even though she is not with the clan, the city guard wouldn't know that and, in their eyes, she would be a passerby, as the Dalish elfs and the city elfs are physically diferent.
Bethany, as she states a while back, would be familiar with evading the Templars' gaze, I guess either by stealth, or by blending in.
It's also stated that the city is in chaos, too much people for too few guards and templars, so it would be believable that any mage who's "behaving" wouldn't garner any atention, and even so, bringing in well behaved mages who could in a moment of desperation surrender to a demon would be a risk too great in this current cenario, maybe when things settle, they'll start knocking donw on all mages again, but for now, I think they prioritize the true nuisances.
All that said to somehow justify the reason why you could be galavanting with a party of mages through town unbothered… But Anders should be a little less callous somethimes.
As for Fenris, when he talks about your brother, my interpretation is both that he somehow reflected on something from his past, and maybe there is a relation with the land and the people to him or his culture, so abandoning, or not declaring in words that you miss home, where your brother (and father) died, would likely be seen as abandoning the people you care there, as home and people are the same, if you don't miss home, you don't miss the people, so they don't matter. Not saing that's what it is, but that maybe that's his viewpoint.
I think you may have missed an investigation option at the beginning.
Ooh, wonder if the black fox's fate will ever become a DLC!
"Cullen?!" Wellonz catching every reference like a boss! ๐
Thank you so much for playing this game. Genuinely it's probably my favorite of the DA games… Fenris is such a fun character it's never a bummer whether it's his friendship dialogue or rivalry haha. We love Broody.
Yeah once you're far enough into the rival path it kinda snowballs. Eventually even gifts give rivalry points.
You should go with the smart ass responses more. A lot of those are pretty hilarious.
>come to the Circle of Magi
>see templars everywhere
>Pikachu face
14:50+15:15 Honestly, based templar in the middle there. That's probably one you could trust to make good judgements on more controversial, nuanced issues. He seems to be one of those rare people who actually think for themselves and trust their own lying eyes.
15:54 Uh. That was some fast response time on that "Anders, shut up." Like the bullet was already in the chamber, knowing it will be needed.
16:45 Cullen? As in "Kill all the mages" Cullen from the Ferelden circle?
What better time to be in the Free Marches than the third month of the year.
27:35 Hang on. That's not a letter! That's a dagger!
34:55 He put codex entries there to ward off a certain new rival of his.
It didn't work. It may have intensified said rivalry.
1:24 Why didn't you choose Investigate option here? I noticed that you'd skipped questions under Investigate option before, but here you avoided the whole subject. ๐คจ
40:10 I wonder. Would that conversation have gone +15 friendship instead if you were leaning towards friendship? After all, thinking about how the game mechanics want you to go to either of one of the extremes those regularly scheduled conversations probably shouldn't drive you in the direction you don't want.
41:55 I'm surprised this LaFail guy succeeded at anything.
In the shop interface, you can press the portraits of your party members on the left to compare their gear to what the vendor is selling!
EDIT: Whoops you figured it out yourself x.x That's what I get for jumping straight to the comments instead of finishing the vid ๐ก
the broody romance potential
LOL, You ARE a "little" stronger than other hirelings, considering how almost avery enemy in this game is basically a hireling and you cut through swathes of them on a regualr basis,
"Gain rivalry" isn't the companion becoming angry (well, not necessarily). Gaining rivalry means you are working towards the companion changing their initial viewpoints.
Friendship is accepting the companion as they are, rivalry is trying to change them. That's really all there is to it!
So glad you remembered who Cullen was!
as an avid mage player… Fenris and i NEVER got a long. i get his bitterness. also the fact Merril is FUCKING adorbs and ideserves the best. I never got along with fen
I am enjoying this lets play so much I ended up playing DA2 while watching you play it, I will not tell you how to talk to people or how to get friendly or not with them I feel watching someone else play is the point letting them make their choices though for the life of me I cannot figure out how you keep getting all the rivalry with Fen I mean he is angsty omg is he cranky, but I do not remember him being so difficult in general. It should be very interesting.
