A long, long time ago (over a year?), I uploaded two videos covering CM Koseman’s excellent project “Snaiad,” a master work in speculative biology. I was never terribly happy with the quality of the audio, and I was still very new to doing my own voiceovers. I still have a ways to go, but I think I’ve improved a lot since then.

So, I thought it would be fun to revisit Snaiad, but I completely redid the audio and added several minutes’ worth of new content. I hope you enjoy it!

  1. I cannot get enough specevo content!
To add some more thoughts to this post, like your "vertebrate" remark implies, it's quite interesting that calling the organisms of other planets "animals" (and "plants") is not entirely unproblematic, because the term is only unambiguous as long as we know of only one tree of life (the Terran one). Although if one were to be very precise, one could also use the synonym "metazoa" for Terran animals (the reverse, hoping metazoa would catch on as a term for animal-analogues on other worlds, is futile, they would always be called "animals", it's the more humane and in its origin (literally meaning "beings that have souls") more romantic and better term).

  2. I can't help but wonder if the spikes on the Spearneck work like some kind of Peltier device, given its environment, I could imagine what little humidity buils up overnight would settle on the spikes in the early dawn, and run down to either the functional mouth, or within reach of it. Then again, I've only listened to this summary and not the source material, so maybe they dont even need water in that form.
