I loved ancient aliens when I was much younger. Not as like a source of fact seeking. More just entertainment.

As a brown person, I am so happy to hear someone who isn't brown call the ancient aliens theories what they are. Now, if we can get someone who isn't a pyramid to say it.
For me, it's obvious when a show on the history channel is meant for pure entertainment vs facts — but I'm aware that isn't true for everyone.
Also, fuck racism. I never considered they were targeting "primitive" cultures. I just thought of them as ancient human beings who are, in general, not as scientifically advanced as we (as a species) are now. That's awful :/

I used to watch the history channel growing up and one day I realized what it had become. It was like a switch turned on in my head and I was like, "oh……. Oh no…. Sigh." Changes channel
I used to enjoy conspiracy theories and space alien stuff before the right wing decided to make conspiracies an excuse to kill people. As I slowly discovered how racist a lot of this stuff is I backed very far away from it but I wish I could still enjoy any of it like I used to. The right-wing has ruined everything. I have too many friends who watched the Megalodon show and the mermaid show and thought they were real documentaries. One day I was in my break room at work and I saw some weird satanic conspiracy theory on television and I said "why is q-anon on TV?" It was Ancient Aliens. In that moment I realized just how dangerous these shows are. There are people who think that Democrats are actually murdering babies in parallel to the anti-semitic blood libel stories from the Dark Ages and f**** History Channel is airing that kind of conspiracy theory which is only going to lead to some idiot with a gun shooting up a pizza restaurant or a synagogue.
As a mixed Native person, THANK YOU for this because the sheer amount of antinative racism, antiblack racism ( and let's be real antisemitism as well ) in these theories are so disgusting and nobody talks about it enough. I believe in aliens and all that but remember: just because white people didn't make things doesn't mean that aliens made it lmfao

Those first few seasons of ancient aliens were so damaging and dangerous. Because it wasnāt well known what they were about, they were able to approach so many researchers and professors to talk about their work, and then clip them out of context. It damaged a lot of credible, good people. It was not only a betrayal, but it was fraud as well.

Very interesting video. I used to watch History back in the days but I don't like it since they've clearly changed their programming of actual science and fact in our history. To me that was incredibly fascinating, unlike the garbage they show now.
I don't care about the topic of aliens at all. I'm not really a believer nor am I a non-believer because to me it's irrelevant and I'm just tired of hearing about it them conspiracies & entertainment. I don't care to debate about them, I'd rather we focus on oursleves as humans sharing this planet and taking care of our planet. My opinion on aliens is only this: if our planet and its lifeforms developed and evolved the way it did then another planet far away can do something similar as well. I don't care to go further than that though like if they're more evolved or if they've visited us or may even be among us – I don't entertain that though even in entertainment. I don't really care if others do. But History channel has ticked me off with their content that isn't as educational, factual or credible as it used to be. Thank you for covering this ššÆ

I once was obsessed with ancient aliens, I love conspiracy theories and myths and all that stuff. Seriously after a few seasons you really start to ask yourselft stupid questions about how much of this is true, even though you started it just for the laughs, the way the show is presented its allways so devinitive and lacking details that speak against it that its easy to be drawn in.
My dad is in his 70's and it was really difficult to convince him that scientists didn't find a mermaid body and that mermaids were not proven to be real. I used to pay extra to have the History channel now I barely watch TV at all.
I'll have you know that alien ships are actually designed not to disturb surroundings during landing and takeoff.

I remember watching that "Mermaid Found" documentary when it was new and wondering why something that was so clearly fake was being passed off as a documentary. Not only is it mostly CGI scenes dreaming up with the mermaids might be like, the "found footage" of the out-of-focus beached mer body wasn't convincing either.

As bad as Discovery and History have gotten, neither one is as disappointing as what happened to The Learning Channel.

Coming from experience, sharkweek itself was actually all documentaries last year. I watched most of it with a new friend at the time. Many of them were about conservation. I can't speak for 2014-2021 though

Well, I am just saying these documentary stories about Bigfoot,Yeti, etc. There has never been a true discovery of a set of bones from these creatures,ever! That is the part that really bothers me.
I remember believing Megaladon was still alive, and had adapted to living in the Marianas Trench. Then, when I got older, I realized creatures that lived that deep couldn't survive surfacing anyway, so even if it was real, being afraid of it would be pointless.

You know…feels like shows like this have, on top of everything else, another unaddressed problem. They fall back on the true and tried "Well, if anyone actually believes this, they are just an idiot" – excuse. Which fails to comprehend just how much power a group of people can have. One person shouting about ancient aliens isn't (pending other beliefs or factors/resource that may make em to be so) too dangerous. Ten people is starting to become a bit concerning. A hundred is very worriedsome. A thousand is a fricking movement and is starting to get clearly cult like. And it only grows from there. The issue here is however that as the world becomes ever smaller and people are able to easily communicate…we aren't starting with one person. We are already starting at easily a thousand, as these people are bound to run into each other and be communicating. And the show nor channel aren't going to take responsibility, because either they don't care, or enjoy it cause of what they are pushing.
Oh yeah – Ancient aliens is VERY racist. These (cough)(cough) non-white (cough) primitive people could NEVER do something this complex. ALIENS! "Aliens" is just another way for some "savior" to take credit for the work of those brown primitives.

I think the worst part is the fact that ancient aliens theory is actually a rather interesting concept were it not for the way it's handled by shows like this and the people who believe in it. They literally took "could our civilizations have possibly been influenced by extraterrestrial intelligence?" and twisted it into "lol indigenous cultures are too dumb to invent things themselves, obviously it was all aliens".
It's pretty much destroyed any chance for actual discussion on the topic, to the point that when you bring it up people either A.) act like the show is fact or B.) if they're normal then they automatically assume you're one of those cringey "bUt WhAt AbOuT tHe PyRaMiDs?" types.

Had to explain to a family member as to why ancient aliens was actually racist.
Told her "Besides Stonehenge all the things they credit aliens for are things created by brown people. They're literally saying that it's easier to believe aliens came to earth to stack rocks than to believe that brown people could manage making anything impressive/sophisticated."

To think that we are the only living beings in the entire universe is very limited in my belief and impossible BUT If I were an alien I donāt think I would want to have any sort of business with humans. We are terrible and we do awful things to our planet and animals.
