SpaceX will also need a refueling depot Starship (RDS) in orbit to go to Mars! 250 extra tons to LEO gives SpaceX a good start on refueling. 350-400 tons should be enough to give the Delta-V for a cargo mission (8 months transit time) to Mars. And another 500-600 tons would allow a 3-4 month transit time (or 100 extra tons of supplies on a 6 month transit).

Nuclear propulsion using nuclear explosions does not deliver mass to accelerate but nuclear or cold fusion energy usable fot endless drive not loosing any mass simply accelerating mass like Hg in ring then shoot into attached tubes filled with water for linear slow down driving into direction shoot Hg back in cycle into ring accelerator with counter rotator usable also for Hg punsh fusion in H2O and for Hg-197 epsilon decay gold.

  3. It is curious that everyone talks about methane and hydrogen transfer, but nobody addresses the mandatory oxygen transfer as per NASA award.
    Edit: it is sensible to send a rocket with less oxygen and more hydrogen/methane, than complete combustion ratio in LEO orbit. Oxygen boils off less easily and can stay parked in LEO for longer, unlike both combustibles.

  4. It makes sense to put some empty hulls in orbit. Refueling, storage, space station hulls, orbital garbage collection scoops if the top could be opened. Chinese and Russian satellite collection if they get ugly with SpaceX satellites. SpaceX satellite orbital defense platforms.

  5. Felix, you don't understand what the word "prototype" means.
    There is only EVER one (1) prototype of ANYTHING.
    Everything else is "test items" or "development items".
    Words are important and they have actual meanings.

  7. I imagine there are rapid iterations since we are so early in the game in the Starship program. I imagine there is some fundamental change made to the Ship, whether A.P. related or tank reconfiguration, structural changes to reduce mass, etc. To reduce cost of launches. So i doubt 26 will be launched. Or possibly re-static fire of booster with ship on top? How are they doing with engine production cadence? Will be interesting to see what they are up to

That's why NASA also wants Bezos rocket, cause it is hydrogen and you can manufacture hydrogen and oxygen on moons surface, mining water locally and splitting it with electricity from solar panels. For methane production you need CO2. Of cause you can recycle human produced CO2 waste, but that"s not enough, may be some fecal bacteria. Well hydrogen manufacturing in easier to get in space than methane, I think. No complex reactors, just electric splutter and there is lots of solar energy in space. You can get 80 percent more in space from the same solar panel

  10. 26 could be just a test Consider you have two things: a booster and a Starship, each worth their weight in gold pressed latinum. Would you want to risk destroying BOTH of them the first time you attempt a launch? Or risk just ONE of them plus a throw-away cheap dummy load? I would definitely go with the dummy load! That's my guess. If I'm wrong and it's something more useful like a fuel depot, and it all works, awesome!! I'll be happy to be wrong. 🙂

  11. My thoughts that the ship w.o heat-shields will be testing landing, or should I say get caught my the mechazilla. But since this ship doesnt have any flaps, it might be constructed for some other mission. Lets stay tune and watch how it progress during the next couple of week/months. Cant wait for the big launch this spring. Keep up the good work Felix, this channel is one of the best news channel for us in Europe.
