  6. Only a passing mention of Hogwarts Legacy? It's honestly pretty disappointing. I'm sure Ralph is enjoying giving this whole controversy a swerve, but it's pretty cowardly, and it gives me no pleasure to say that.

    I really thought the Skill Up channel was better than this. It would be like him not covering Elden Ring or Cyberpunk 2077 (warts and all)… I mean, can you imagine?

    It seems he's been intimidated into silence, which is a real bummer to me. Skill Up's opinion and voice is a valuable resource in this weird video game landscape. And I don't much care if he agrees with all the weirdos that are claiming that playing a video game is genocide or not. I'd just like to hear his unvarnished opinion.

    Skill Up's channel is usually reasonable and has well informed takes, and I think we are all worse for wear that he has chosen silence (or perhaps been bullied into silence).

    Imagine if he was silent on "The Last Day".

Ok so don't know if anyone can relate to this but i was so HYPED for ghost trick back in the day, and IGN literally spoiled the finale to the story in the first 30 seconds of their review? like literally in the intro to their review!! the state of gaming journalism back in those days I swear to god

  22. Honestly, voice acting in the best of the best games still occassionally misses the mark with the basics, such as reading a sentence the correct way. It's as if the people making the decisions aren't good at their jobs.

  24. Lost much respect for SkillUp is this video. First he says that Nintendo, “put more effort into the Metroid remaster than anyone expected”, essentially attempting to shift the narrative in favour of publishers by making it appear that gamers have low expectations and will buy anything.

    Then he justifies Nintendo’s $70 game because it, “doesn’t have in-game spending”, meaning that gamers should accept price hikes if there’s no predatory mechanics. Developers don’t deserve praise and more money for not actively trying to screw gamers.

  31. On the voice acting part…I think you don't understand that voice acters for establishes franchises will be gone within 5 years. You can feed an AI a script of let's say Robert D. jr…he has to do it once and the AI will be able to do 95% of the work in the first few years and 100% of the work after.

    Voice acting won't go away soon, but for popular established names it will. Even if they have to pay the movie star 25% of a movie budget…remember, no recording studio, no recording crew, no flying, no transport, live editing, no schedules…you pretty much need 1-3 dudes in a Studio to edit and review the entire voice acting.

  34. Midnight Sun's should have had a demo before it dropped. I see nothing but people either dismissing it as a mobile like card game when it's not or complaining it's not like UA3 and refusing to play it, which ironically is closer to a mobile game than Midnight Sun's. Its not for everyone but maybe if more people got a chance to play it it might have sold better.

  36. My issue with Tears of the kingdom being $70 is that this isn't a new game from the ground up. It's BOTW, recontextualized…

    Games going up $10 is not about the quality of said game… it's representative of the increased costs associated with developing on new hardware and in new engines.

    Nintendo has not done anything to justify a $10 price hike. And it's not like this will be the last game to see that bump on the Switch. It's a guarantee that will be the new standard for all first-party Nintendo games.

  40. Pretty common sense atm. Nintendo should not be charging 70 usd for a game that's on their current hardware sorry. That hardware is garbage. Now if a switch pro or something came out and they charged 70usd for that specific version it'd be worth it. Not to mention the next Zelda game is a direct sequel to the one prior which means they reused assets and such thus making development easier, so less dev time and less money spent. Also…Just want the ABK deal done so Xbox can start focusing on other things. Most people with even a shred of brain matter can tell u the deal benefit most people, just not sony which dominates in europe where the CMA is. If Sony is so scared of COD being yoinked off of their system in the long run, idk maybe make something besides 3rd person adventure games? Bring back socom, killzone, etc.
