Assassin’s Creed II is a 2009 action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montréal and published by Ubisoft.[1] It is the second major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series, and the sequel to 2007’s Assassin’s Creed. The game was first released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2009, and was later made available on Microsoft Windows in March 2010 and OS X in October 2010. Several minor game-related features could be redeemed on Uplay and three downloadable expansion packs, including two story expansions, were released on Xbox Live and later to other platforms. A three-part live-action short film, titled Assassin’s Creed: Lineage, which serves as a prequel to the main story and stars most of the game’s cast, was produced and released on YouTube to promote it ahead of release.
The game’s plot is set in a fictional history of real-world events and follows the millennia-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight to preserve peace and free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control. The framing story is set in the 21st century and follows Desmond Miles as he relives the genetic memories of his ancestor, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, to uncover the mysteries left behind by an ancient race known as the First Civilization in the hope of ending the Assassin-Templar conflict. The main narrative takes place at the height of the Renaissance in Italy from 1476 to 1499, and follows Ezio’s journey as an Assassin while seeking revenge against those responsible for the death of his father and brothers. Gameplay focuses on using Ezio’s combat, stealth, and parkour abilities to defeat enemies and explore the environment. The game features a large open world comprising several Italian cities, including Florence, Venice, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, and Forlì, all of which have been accurately recreated to fit the game’s historical setting.
Using a newly updated Anvil game engine, Assassin’s Creed II began development shortly after the release of Assassin’s Creed. The game received general acclaim from video game publications and sold more than nine million copies. It is considered to be one of the best video games ever made. The PC version was met with some criticism in relation to the digital rights management system, and thus had the always-online DRM permanently removed. The game spawned two direct sequels: Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (2010) and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (2011), and a spin-off, Assassin’s Creed II: Discovery (2009). Remastered versions of Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations were released as part of the Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection compilation for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 15, 2016, and for the Nintendo Switch on February 17, 2022.

playing this also got me thinking how I really don't need these games to be remastered. don't touch 'em. they feel great especially with next-gen fps upgrades 😏
I completed the story mode last week for the first time. The story is awesome, the historical accuracy is impeccable. But at the same time: fighting system is clunky so are the controls, story mode had too much tutorials, the ending is weak to rather acceptable and many side quests are boring AF. But anyway, is a great game!
gow, revenge story?
I just started playing AC 2 because I had never and I thought you'll go in order of event and then you say Lucy is good FOR NOW???
I was born in 08 so i havent player the ac games until now I just finished ac 2 and started brotherhood and this already made me a bit nostalgic i can imagine the prople who played it when it came out
The underwear analogy got me 😂 real talk
Keyboard & a 5 button mouse…or?
2009: I had 2 kids & 2 Baby mamas and only 28 summers 😲 (Bloody Denmark)
2:20 ..aaaaeh(deep OLD-xennialx86 sigh) yup…+1
^UBI = nice when folks working – "FAST/Funny in French" – for..
PS: 2022: They'll live+
This game, and eventually the entire series, lead me directly to Randall Carlson and Graham Hancock theories on our pre history of our planet. Nothing will ever compare imo, as far as depth of story goes.
Well, I was 30 when AC2 came out. My rose colored glasses are much older
guys as someone who never played ac ezio triolgy do u advise to try it or no
I didn’t have the dlc until I bought my ps4 copy like last year so for many years on my Xbox copy I never did the dlc’s and let me tell you the forli dlc part was so strange when I got to it like it freaked me out cause I hadn’t been used to that being there so when It happened it surprised me
Bro i hear soundtracks on spotify
Imagine this remastered….
i dont remember it looking that bad
The game does hold up but damn it’s rough. It was astonishing at the time but it has a plethora of issues looking back on it that I just overlooked. The parkour is clunky as shit, combat is mediocre at best, weapons are pointless, cringey dialogue at times, etc. but overall it’s still good, I just hate that people are disingenuous about it, saying it’s still a 10/10, like it’s not. It’s got issues
I just played this game for the first time this year, and it really was SO good. Except for some issues I’ve had with the camera and controls especially during the timed bits. I have cursed god many times with glitches and just bad camera angles switching all of a sudden. Had a much smoother experience with Brotherhood. But everything else about AC2 gave me so much, especially the Firenze bits. I’m from Italy, and I love Firenze, so getting to climb everywhere in it is such a treat. And the game itself is overall SO MUCH FUN.
Admittedly I didn’t care about the plot, but I loved the game so much.
I always remember being fascinated by the deeper mysteries and underlying stories in AC2. Like you mentioned in the video, those creepy apples of Eden picture puzzles and what-not really set the tone. It felt like there was this huge underlying story, a huge ancient conspiracy that was leaving footprints in history. Which of-course was the point, but damn did they nail it. And Ezio was the GOAT. Good job on the video!
Rodriiiigo…..
So much good fun with this game.
Why does this look worse than AC1? I'm guessing cause AC1 had performance issues on PS3…
It's the MUSIC for me
Ive never gotten any DLC for any game tbh
Not me playing it this year for the first time
Still a fun game to play, but man the controls and graphics make it hard to enjoy as much as I did when it was newer. Still worth replaying, but glitchy mechanics can make it frustrating
Just downloaded the game again and I think it is incredible how more exciting it is than Valhalla. I like Valhalla, I downloaded it again this week to try to finish some secondary quests, do Kassandra's quest etc, but it's not the same feeling like playing the old games. Even though some movements are better than in AC 2, I feel more prone to do AC 2 stuff again than in Valhalla.
I just finished my first playthrough of AC2, the first AC game I’ve played. The game was definitely the best game I’ve played over the last year. Some mechanics can be clunky at times but I managed to work around it. Ezio, Leonardo and so many other characters are super likable and all contributed to such a great 30 hour experience!
I hope ac mirage is like the food old days lol
You can't takeaway the music from the game 🌹🌹🌹
Holy christ the controls and guards in this game rucking suck dick
Playing this game for the first time right now – only ever played AC1 (forever ago). It's so nice not to have freakin' loot EVERYWHERE…no dirty dishes or bone dust to be found anywhere… no plant gathering, no hunting or a fishing… In the words of Jake Baldino – "Just a video game ass video game". Someone should beat the person who designed the control scheme for the PC port, but it's all good. Always heard this was on of the best in the series! Now I think I wanna play Black Flag.
I got this game for Christmas because all the Assassin’s Creed games were on sale on steam I’ve always wanted to play them but I’ve never gotten around to it honestly I think it’s amazing I have such trouble getting through video games but this one it’s easy for me to just pick up and run around on buildings I’m over halfway through it now and can definitely see why so many people love it
This game is timeless and comes from an era of great gaming, good stories and adequate pacing. AC1 and AC2 were my last purchases of the franchise as I did not particularly care for the new directions. I did not want to play joint missions in Brotherhood, Unity and Syndicate or what followed after and certainly did not want to play as a pirate of any sort. That entire plot seemed cornball. Ultimately this was the last era of ubisoft actually making great games. They are just dreadful these days.
Assassin's Creed back then was an action adventure historical fiction game about an assassin parkouring around cities and assassinating targets.
Assassin's Creed today is a historical fantasy action adventure rpg about a warrior galloping around a vast map fighting and killing everyone on their way, fighting monsters.
Honestly AC II is super dated and frustrating to play. The climbing is faster but bugged to he'll and the combat is insanely tedious. The story is fine, if not a little cliche.
Assassins creed 2 brotherhood I beat 1000 times no 1 is fan like me
In 6 years this game will be 20 years old. Think about that. What a masterpiece it is.
1:38 Dude, that fragment from The Matrix just fits perfectly xD
Honestly the economy in this game is broken. If you do all of the side content and don't spend any florins until you upgrade the town, and focus on The Bank and Renovations, you can repair the entire town and have overflowing pockets before you even hit Venice.
For me, the old AC games have aged poorly in terms of gameplay. The atmosphere is timeless, though. But I can't get over the clunky and stiff feel, in comparison to the new games.
I'm 14 I just finished the story I like every single thing about this game
THAT TITLE SCREEN. IT STILL GIVES ME CHILLS. They started Ezio’s story so beautifully, and little did I know that moment started one of the most enjoyable stories I’ve ever played.
