#911 #911attack #boatlift
Following the September 11 attacks in New York City, many people were unable to leave Lower Manhattan due to the closure of bridges and tunnels and mass transportation.Within minutes of the first plane hitting the first tower, multiple fireboats from the New York City Fire Department rushed to the scene. The United States Coast Guard coordinated a large convoy of merchant ships, tugboats, and ferries to evacuate the stranded and injured victims.
More than 150 different vessels and 600 sailors helped evacuate victims and delivered supplies in the days following the attacks. According to the Commandant of the Coast Guard James Loy, the mass evacuation of more than 500,000 civilians following the attacks “moved more people from the island than the 1940 evacuation of Allied troops from France.”

So sad that our own government was behind this!
It REALLY SUCKS that it takes horror and tragedy to unite us. Like to think we'd finally figure out BOTH parties don't give a piss about 98% of us.
Here in Santa Rosa, California at the Pacific Coast Air Museum, we actually have F15 MA102 on display, MA102 was the first fighter jet to respond and fly over the WTC after the attacks.
I was in 1st grade when the towers were hit….I was young and that day will never leave my memory. I remember the teachers running back and forth from each others rooms, they turned the tv on and the first tower fell. They were crying and non of us kids could figure out why! Then my mom picked me and my brothers up from school. As I got older I realized what had happened, but that is a memory from my childhood that stuck with me.
Last Christmas there was a bad storm across the east of the US and Canada, where travellers were stranded in the snow in their cars. Many people were saved by stores opening their doors and taking them in overnight and giving them what they need. This it reminded me of this story and of Gander.
On 911 I was one of the few that wanted to get back into Manhattan. I worked in Jersey City right across from the towers and lived on the lower east side of Manhattan. It took me 28 hrs to get home.
Thank you guys for showing this important film.
This does help us at this moment in time. We are hurting here by a culture war.
God bless America… AMERICANS BLESS AMERICA… Remember them, never forget that whatever there is to complain about, because we may be called to help one day… While it may be a dark time, Americans gathered together shine ever SO BRIGHTLY, around the globe.. it's who we are.
Thnx for your love of our country. I've already adopted you a LOOOONG time ago.. you're both loved, you're both very special.. and WELCOME anytime 😉😂 PEACE & BLESSINGS to your lovey family!!
When you see all those boats racoing over the horizon, that's where I always start to lose it.
Tom Hanks narrates this soooooooooooo excellently
Great video from you both. Ironically, enough, I was thinking of Dunkirk, before it was mentioned towards the end of the video.🇺🇸🇬🇧🇬🇧🇺🇸
There were 67 British citizens killed in the 9/11 attacks. There were thousands of Americans killed of course, but it was a international tragedy.
Thank you for sharing this.
Was born in New York, but lived in North Carolina when this happened. I will never forget watching that first plane hit…still just being able to register that this was ACTUALLY happening, then seeing the second hit. It tore my soul.
I was 16, had started college early and had class that morning, watched the 2nd plane hit on live TV when we all first knew something was wrong but had to go right then, got to school to admins running through the parking lot screaming at us to get back in our cars and get away from downtown. Spent hours stuck alone in my car in traffic w AM radio full of misinformation of dozens of planes hijacked, carbombs exploding, men w automatic weapons mowing people down coast to coast, missiles hitting DC. I sat in my car hearing we were now at war and were under attack. What happened was horrible, what the AM radio was reporting, the misinformation added so much to the trauma. I still can't talk to my kids about 9/11 wo crying.
Cried all the way through. What I remember back then, for months, everybody everywhere across the whole USA got quiet and polite. Everybody called their mothers and put flags on their cars and gave blood and there were just no fights. No sports because the media and sports people felt the same way. The politicians held hands and sang quiet songs. I know so many people who went to NY to help in the clean up and a lot of them knew they would probably get cancer from working in the fumes and some of them do have cancer and they knew it back then that going would likely shorten their lives but they were heroic. I had some Christian friends who were in NY City helping the homeless at that time and they brought meals to the firefighters and other first responders starting on 9/11 and then that effort continued for months. The people who worked their often said that they could not share what they were seeing with their families, similar to the silent men who came back from war. So many heroic people.
I have watched this reaction from not only Mr H but several other reactors and every time I cry.. I was in 8th grade and I still remember watching it on tv live in study hall..
At Dunkirk the British had to travel over 20 miles , so its not a fair comparison
Thank you for showing this. I had no idea about the boat rescues
I was in a qualitative research class for sociology the year of the 10th anniversary. I know more about people’s experiences and have seen footage that is horrifying. I watch this video 2-3 times a year ever year for about a decade. It reminds me of when people helped people…it was hours prior to the hatred, xenophobia, and racism that resulted afterwards. This was pure chaos, but this video reminds me that people can be pure if we work together rather than against each other 💕 So glad to see y’all’s reaction!
Random Q: what’s y’all’s take on the first gentleman’s (red shirt, brown hair) accent? Is that type of accent easier or harder than a “traditional/non-regional non-accent (like in tv)? 1:34
listen to toby keith COURTESY OF THE RED WHITE AND BLUE or AMERICAN SOLDIER they are an incredible glimpse of America's reaction
I was born in Manhattan in 1958 at ST.Vincent Hospital, raised in NYC, served in the US Naval Submarine Service for ten years and moved to New Jersey, got a job in the US Postal Service as a technician in Kearney NJ, woke up that morning and saw the news unfold and headed to work, as I came over exit 8 on highway 280 East My eyes saw the plum of smoke from the towers , I was overcome with tears for what they did to my beloved city, I will never forget
Thank you both for reacting. And being very respectful. During times of a tragedy. We will come together to save others. I was a young teenager at the time. And this has stuck with me since it happened. An open wound that will never close. To those who were killed may they all rest in peace. Please react to MrBallen inside the twin towers. When the both of you can. It gives you a perspective. On what is going on inside the towers as the planes hit.
There was a man named Stanley Praimnath. Who survived the impact of the plane. In the south tower. He asked the lord for help. As he saw the plane getting closer and closer. He dove under his desk. As the plane hit. His floor/where he worked was destroyed. Another survivor named Brian Clark. Who worked on another floor. Heard Stanley's cries for help and he saved his life. They got out and have been best friends ever since. I believe Stanley quit working. He now talks about how it was a miracle he survived. Some people out of fear might have left. The fact that so many people stayed behind to help others get out. And some didn't make it. Saving others is what they intended to do. Rest in peace as well to the firefighters, cops and to others who wanted to help in anyway they can.
The narration by Tom Hanks was the perfect way to experience this.
It was like Dunkirk. As an American this makes me so proud !
Does matter how much we may all argue and disagree with one another, when it comes down to it, our humanity will always shine through and do what is right, and help one another.
love you guys!
😢😢😢
Still can make me cry.
I was in Korea out on a patrol when this happened got back to base told I was leaving and our gear would catch us didn't know until the next day what had happened my little brother was search and rescue there
I would rather see yall react to Arlington
🤗🤗🙏❤️
This is the third time I have watched this and it is the third time I have cried all the way through. To the scared people trying to get off that island and away from maniacs in planes, when all those boats started showing up, it must have looked like bands of angels to them. MUCH respect to all the people who dropped what they were doing and answered the call that was put out by the Coast Guard. Thank you, Mr and Mrs H for reacting to this.
It's kinda funny and kinda, well, everything else as well. As Americans we fight with one another. It's how we are…..however…..when you unite people that constantly fight with each other, it's just not going to turn out well for you. The only thing Americans are more fanatical about more than anything else is our freedom. No matter what don't f with our freedom. We have shed so much blood sweat and tears for what we have. Outsiders might not be able to see it but our independence is first and foremost. No matter who you are or what you believe. If you attempt to change the balance you are screwing yourself. All you do is solidify the hearts and minds of the American people. It will always be this way. No matter how much Americans fight with one another, when you attack one of us you attack all.of us and we will all respond as a single entity with one purpose at the same time. It's just how the United States is wired. Before you attack us, look at what we have overcome as a nation. Don't look at how we fight with one another look at how we respond as a nation. Remember the Alamo,Remember Pearl Harbor, Remember 9/11. We will always overcome.
God Bless our People. Good hearted, generous, heroes in the making.
