why did the ground open up? I felt like that part was a little too hollywood for me. I Hate it that they go to such great lengths to make everything realistic then the they're just like "whoops the ground opened up right when Henry is about to get shot" I wish they had made that more believable

This will probably only annoy Charlie and many others who have watched the videogame on which it is based, even though it's not my intention to do so. I have never played any of the games and almost certainly never will. So I wish these recaps would just analyze what happened in each episode of the TV series and not spend any time comparing it with what did or didn't happen in the games. The series stands on its own.
6:48 film- makers and producers chose Kansas and not Pittsburgh only because they were in Calgary (Canada) to shoot episode 4 and 5 and they said Calgary doesn't look like Pittsburgh at all, but in someway is similar to Kansas City or at least is kinda believable!!! That's the only reason,not because they hate Pittsburgh!!

I loved that the way Perry got torn apart by the Bloater was the same as the animation if Joel gets taken out by one in the game.
Also, the sniper in the show. That constant, steady boom and near miss of the bullet from the sniper at the end of the street. That was part of a level in the game too. God I hated that level.

My question… why did the runners/clickers all look so fresh if they were stored down there in the early outbreak?
The show runner does NOT hate Pittsburgh- the city they were filming in just didn't have a Pittsburgh vibe. Looked a lot more like KC.

Nice overview. Small point, Brian was the guy Joel killed, not Kathleen's brother. Her brother was called Michael.
Not the best episode.
Dull and predictable.
When Sam and Henry got back from their fungal zombie encounter, surely Joel being a survivor, would have automatically checked everybody for bites?
Surely?
Instead Joel put Ellie out of sight, in a room with Sam – not knowing if Sam was bitten or not – does that seem likely?
Ellies reaction to Henry killing himself was heartbreaking and so well acted.
My favorite moment of episode 5 was seeing the bloater going through the humans like they were ants !
My favorite part of the episode is when joel is taking out all the infected while ellie is running around. It definitely reminded me of some john wayne stuff.
