I have a movie request: Monster Club (not to be confused with Monster Squad). Starring Vincent Price, John Carradine, and Donald Pleasance. This was a fun movie to see when I was 12.
"THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES" was released by American International Pictures on May 18, 1971, and was later broadcast on The CBS Network in 1974. one of Vincent Price's better known horror movies of the 1970s, and American International Pictures also released "DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN" in September 1972. there was something of a bitter feud between Vincent Price and Robert Quarry ("COUNT YORGA, VAMPIRE") on the set of the second Dr. Phibes movie, as Robert Quarry remarked to Price and said, "I'll bet you didn't know that I could sing did you?". to which Price replied, "well I knew you weren't a fucking actor!" AIP was considering replacing Vincent Price with Robert Quarry as "Dr. Phibes", given Quarry's two "YORGA" movies for the studio, but Mr. Price obviously prevailed, which would explain the toxic atmosphere on the set of the second movie with the two actors!
Vincent Price fan. Last Man on Earth. The Fly. Theater of Blood. But the Dr Phibes series is my favorite (even though the sequel makes absolutely no sense!). I watched it for the very first time in 1979 in Richmond, Virginia on the Bowman Body late-night horror show (Richmond's version of Creature Features in the 1970s) and fell in love with it — especially the end of the sequel when Phibes rows his wife's sarcophagus down the River Styx while singing "Over the Rainbow". And Vulnavia was quite the eye-candy for a teen-aged boy! Wowsers!
I have "The Hidden" on my hard-drive—– its an entertaining Sci Fi movie from the 80's. Show it, its good. The other movie mentioned, I know nothing of.
I saw great movie here on You Tube called, "Patterns" written by Rod Serling. Its about the horrors of a cold blooded crony corporate capitalist. Show the movie, your viewers will love it. All dialogue, no action—- excellent story!
Movie Trivia: The director originally intended to reveal that Dr. Phibes' beautiful, mute assistant was in reality another clockwork invention of Phibes. She was Phibes' most sophisticated robot, really an android. But for reasons never disclosed, that reveal did not take place. Viewers are left to believe she was a flesh-and-blood human, somehow programmed or brainwashed to obey Dr. Phibes as if she was an obedient android.
Why did they need to unscrew the guy from the door. If the catapult had shot the unicorn in a straight direction, all they would have had to do was extract it from his body. Unless it was rotating when it struck him.
I love this film and saw it in a cinema during my Army service in Germany probably about 1974. I also saw the sequel, Dr Phibes rises again, but I don't know if there is a third one. I must look into that.
I love the music from this film. The piece at 1:45:38 I love dearly, but have never been able to find out anything about it. The use of a contralto makes me think of Dame Clara Butt, who I totally adore. Can anyone….ANYONE point me in the right direction to find out more about this piece of music??

I don't doubt phibes devotion to his wife, still he was in Switzerland during her surgery. Well that's a whole nother country and stuff.
