Scams over apps: 44:06 I've never lost any money to these scams, but I've sure been targeted by them. The most recent one, a friend's Facebook account was hacked, he posted in a group I admin that his son had died a few months ago, so he never got the Playstation 5 he bought for his son, and asked if anyone would like it since he didn't want to throw it away or sell it. So I said sure, because we are old friends from when we were both in college and I figured no stranger would want to take it because of the circumstances. This was all done over Messenger.
Of course the idea was I would give him my address, which I did, and that was the first red flag because he said with surprise, "You live ____?!" which was already something the actual person I'm pretty sure knew but I hadn't provided in my Facebook profile. So then he said shipping is $75, which was plausible.
It's a fairly small amount. Most of the time people tried this scam on me it has been for small amounts, like $50 to $100, not thousands. But because I was a little skeptical at this point I started asking questions the answers to which he should know like what was my girlfriend's name when we were in college, to which the scammer replied, "What?! Don't you trust me?"
I then started asking questions containing false information which were half true. For example, I asked him if he was still with his then girlfriend Tran, and he said yes. That was a long, long time ago they broke up, and he since married someone else and had a kid. Then it started getting fun.
He was in the military, so I asked if he was in the Army or Marines; he said Army; the answer was neither. When we, as in he and I, flew a mission over Taiwan, was he the Pilot or Co-pilot; he said Pilot; the answer was neither of us have ever been pilots. And so on. It was hilarious.
In the northeast, where I grew up, long before internet these kinds of scams were common, and again for small amounts of money. There was even a panhandlers academy in NYC which taught people how to trick tourists and such into giving them cash. It's mostly innocent in those cases because it provides people a form of entertainment and they feel good about themselves, like the old shell game or playing a fixed game of dice or cards, sure you got scammed out of a little cash, but you had fun.
These romance scams however are pure evil, especially when they target the elderly or disabled. They prey on desperation. But if you, much like a good gambler, only bet as much as you are willing to lose for the experience, then your losses will be minimal.
Dating apps themselves are somewhat of a scam. If you pay money, more opportunity to meet and fall in love with absolutely no one. You will get special benefits, like 80% more bots featuring photos taken of models will come your way. But at least they have rules and you can typically get your complaints addressed.

The way the balloon was handled has a good number of advantages. The analysis of the hardware may answer questions of intent as well as provide us with technical insight into some of China's surveillance capabilities. It is very likely that more surveillance drones (aerial, underwater, etc.) are simultaneously active. It would not be surprising to hear about additional surveillance drones or craft operating within our ADIZ lines. Increased surveillance of The United States, Taiwan, Australia, US task groups, and other allies would be a signal of pending action by China. Consistent data collection contributes to trends and is useful for the interpretation of more recent data. For countries about to take military action, the more recent the data, the better. If I am attacking tomorrow, yesterday's data will be more useful than data collected weeks ago. A sudden increase in surveillance and data collection is a significant signal.
