This is it. The final tier of The Unhinged Fallout Iceberg. Over the past month, we’ve talked about the weirdest, strangest, most out-there pieces of lore, developer commentary, and theories in the history of the Fallout games. But, all things come to an end. This final tier is what I believe to be the wildest of them all. It goes over a lot of ‘what-if’ theories, explains some potential cut content, and covers a theory that may explain why the entire universe of Fallout is the way it is. Buckle up, it’s Tier 5 of the Unhinged Fallout Iceberg!

If there was anything you felt like I missed, feel free to leave a suggestion in the comments, and I’ll see about making a fan-inspired bonus tier!

  1. In defense of maxson not being a plant, the vault dweller (the protagonist from fallout 1) and the chosen one (protagonist from fallout 2) can be set to any age from 16-40, which means that if maxson stopped a group of raiders, stopped a super mutant uprising and killed a deathclaw, that's still not the most impressive thing a teenager has done in the wasteland

  2. I played fallout 4 first, and didn’t think it was too horrifying in terms of the implied atrocities. Then after about a year of non-stop fallout 4 I decided to pick up 3. First 2 hours in and I discover a cage full of child skeletons. I had already figured out which game I enjoyed more

  3. I’ve always loved the idea that Lanius in game wasn’t the original. Maybe there was an real badass Lanius that had to be replaced for one reason or another and since then we’ve had this figure head.

  4. If only we where not all just brains in jars….

Part of me wonders if it was meant to be a lore thread that lead somewhere else, with some good and bad possibilities. With cynicism I can point out the timing of he message was before the bombs fell, meaning this could have been one of the ways the U.S. was pushed to drop some bombs. Likely a covert spy story line that would lead to the real culprit of the war… cut because we should never do that sort of plotline!

Cynicism because simulation theory is a fun option, thus I am sure they where going for another.

Also… if you limit it to just Fallout 76 then it becomes a really useful tool to explain the whole of that mess. Things pop in and out of existence because it is a poorly resourced simulation. Bugs occur because it is a poorly coded simulation. Seasonal and Themed events all over the place because is an insanely managed simulation. All it would take is a deeply hidden story line, starting with that terminal, to show the truth about yet another horrible experiment run by Vault Tech using Virtual Reality. Alas though… being just a Brain in a Jar means your 76's characters have no real way of ever escaping that simulation….

    Vault tech man, Vault Tech….

It isn't even a double whammy, it is the same experiment from different angles.
Need to know how the staff will react, before you put them into space watching over the pods.
