Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I’m your host Paul aka not your average Joel and this video we’re breaking down The Last Of Us Episode 2. The series has had two really good episodes back to back and as a big fan of the game I’ve loved watching these first two entries. They do change some things up though and throughout the video we’re gonna be going over the easter eggs, game differences and also giving our thoughts on the series so far.
Huge thank you to everyone who checked out our video last week and like that one we’re gonna be saving the more spoilery easter eggs until the end so that people who haven’t played the game can enjoy all the twists and turns that come up in the show. I’ll give you a heads up before we hit that and we start the episode off in Jakarta all the way back in 2003.
If you cast your mind back to last week then you may remember that they did an announcement over the radio that talked about the city and how something strange was going on there. Here we see it playing out with the outbreak of the infection being studied by a doctor. This wasn’t in the game and I like how the series is slowly filling in the backstory of the virus. Both the beginning of last episode and this one had completely new bits in them and it’s possible that we might even get a new story slotted in at the opening of each entry that gives us way more details on the infection than what we ever got in the game.
When the title cards first shown we can see this is taking place on September 24th 2003 dating it two days before the outbreak. This of course shows how fast the virus spread and in the game we learned it was through products contain flour and yeast which we’ll talk more about in just a bit. Huge shoutouts to Dyanmic Smurf on our last video for pointing out that 2003 was potentially chosen because it was one of the hottest years on record which a record breaking heat wave happening that killed 20,000 people.

I'm pretty sure everyone in the future knew about how flour and yeast causing one to be infected and figured how to make bread that wouldn't infect anyone which is why bread still exists in this show.

I’m sorry but why was Sarah black or at least mixed?? I just DONT GET IT???? It’s CLEARLY just a woke move.. the girl was blonde haired and blue eyed… why tf not just stick with that??? We know Joel’s wife was white so HOW?? Was she adopted? No explanation and I’m just tired of seeing crazy theme/character changes just to satisfy woke people……….

As Indonesian, the first scene felt a lot more terrifying to me. Can you imagine the ferocity of infection spreads in Jakarta as one of the ground zero? Jakarta is 2nd highest populated city in the world, add to that Indonesia also basically the 4th of the most populated country in the world. This is even more horrifying that most Indonesian citizens simply don't have firearms to defends themselves for such apocalyptic situation. Interestingly enough, the CV19 Pandemic situation in Indonesia past years was actually way way better & more stable than most of western countries or a more developed countries, even way better than other Asia countries like China (of course LOL), Japan, South Korea, India, etc.
For all intent & purpose, I wouldn't totally mind a spin off TLOU show that set in Jakarta, to add even more deep lore stuffs for the whole series. There are so many interesting apocalypse scenarios that definitely wouldn't exist in gun totted country like US LOL

I know you're British but it's an American Revolutionary War museum not American Civil War. Boston is known as the area where the Revolution started.

The scientist said bomb the city so I had a look if Indonesia has the ability to flatten a city and its no. No combat aircraft and v limited artillery. Adds the factor that even if the government agrees, they can't do it.
@heavyspoilers you mentioned the civil war being the focus of the museum but I’d imagine it would be the American Revolution being the focus of a museum in Boston

BTW @HeavySpoilers Film Theory straight jacked Ryan’s and especially yours theory about Flour in last of us. He just posted a video today. He said he found it but couldn’t find any info on YouTube’s channels and found it out himself. One channel he scrolled was yours. He’s saying THEE Exact thing you said just weeks later. I like the guys channel but at least give credit man. Go watch the video and 6:56 I believe where he gets to Jarkarta. Just looking out for you guys because that’s not right.
