I want to say I'm excited, but with BMW having a 3.0 I6 that puts out over 400 HP (BMW says 382, but dyno says way higher), that just seems underwhelming. I'm glad Mazda is doing it, but I really hope they are able to crank up the performance on newer models of this engine.
Aren’t Mazda and Toyota in some sort of joint venture? Mazda could have learned the in-line 6 from their friend at Toyota, while the big T got the big cost cutter out at Mazda?
It hurts to see one of the best JDM brands deviate away from sports cars and or at the very minimum sporty sedans. I hope mazdaspeed will return one day.

Looking forward to your coverage on the 31st. Will you be asking Mazda about a new 6 or coupe on this platform? I read in an earlier interview with a Mazda representative that the platform would not be suited for a low style vehicle like a 6 or coupe. Do you think there might be a chance of a 6 ‘outback style’ maybe? Or maybe the representative I mentioned is wrong (which I hope) I would definitely buy a 6 with an inline 6 and rearwheel drive. I own the current 6 2021 model and it’s absolutely terrific.

I have a mazda 6 signature and the car has been reliable, fit and finish is amazing. Interior material quality can rival and Audi. I am digging the new cx90 and considering it for the near future.

We need the return of the Mazda RX series…this inline 6 would be perfect for that. A Mazda RX-9(?) Coupe would be sick with that engine, and a manual gearbox…

I hope this new 340 hp engine is not as bad as the current 2.5T which struggles to keep up with 200 hp cars despite having 250 hp! Numbers don't tell the whole story especially when Japanese cars are involved!
340hp is "meh" now adays. Should be at least 400 to be competitive.
I've been liking the latest pancake electric motors sandwiched between engine and transmission. Way easier to just use transmission and powertrain in place instead of those weird planetary ones. Give me 50 mile EV range, space for a spare tire, and the option to fast charge it. Then by all means take all my monies!

Well, as you can see, Mazdas exterior and interior designs are becoming increasingly repetitive. So let's look at the engine. The inline 6 cylinder is the ultimate configuration made famous by Jaguar, BMW, Toyota, etc. Power is not everything. Even without turbos a modern 3 litre can make 260 / 230. A hybrid can add 50 pounds of torque, 50km of range and up to 50km/h on pure electric before the gas motor seamlessly kicks in for urban driving. I drive a 2003 530i. No turbo, it is both quick, fast and efficient averaging 24.2mpg.
