In this video, I catch a train to Allawah station on the Illawarra Line of the Sydney Trains network, to visit the station and take a walk around the surrounding area.
I’ve gone on several explorational walks around train stations like this before, but this is the first one I’ve decided to film to make a video about it. I picked Allawah because it’s Sydney’s first station in alphabetical order, though I definitely won’t be visiting the rest of the stations in alphabetical order. Hopefully I’ll be sharing a few more videos in the next few weeks.

I moved to Allawah a few years ago. It’s a nice quiet suburb and I’m only five minutes from the train station, living on Hamilton Street. The Little Italy restaurant is a favourite of mine and I’ll sometimes get my Carbonara pasta from there on a Friday night.
I lived in Allawah, Lancelot st, from 1980 till 1996, great suburb. Now i live in Zadar Croatia

Obviously, the youngest station between Central and Hurstville opened in 1925 for the electrification from Central to The Royal National Park which encouraged the suburban sprawl that turned the St George area from an individual collection of rural settlements into established Inner Southern Sydney suburbia. Penshurst station would have felt like Thirlmere when it opened but it has since become surrounded by 1920s double brick Californian bungalows.
