It’s that time of the year again where all of the MMO content creators make one of those list videos talking about the upcoming MMORPGs that might be releasing in 2023, even though experience has taught us that half of these games will be perpetually pushed back another year only to be featured on next years list…
Honestly some of these games featured in this video won’t ever come out, and the ones that do probably won’t live up to expectations, This list will be organized in order of the MMOs that I’m most optimistic about to the ones I’m less optimistic about.

Are you looking forward to any of these upcoming MMORPGs in 2023 & beyond? which one are you the most hyped for? Throne & Liberty, Ashes Of Creation or maybe you think Star Citizen will release soon? let me know in the comments below!

  1. Yall gotta stop saying BDO competitor(for throne and liberty) just because it has open world pvp and a dungeon, so does literally everything else. New World was supposed to rival BDO, and look at the shit storm that became. Then there's Lost Ark, the last "BDO killer" which turned out to be ridiculously overhyped, but atleast it's better than New World lol.

  2. Maybe you could do a deepdive on some blockchain games ? Blockchain games like illuvium , realms of ethernity , domi online , legend of elumia they all have opened up their beta so you can expect them to launch this year or next.

  3. Ashes of Creation looks like hot garbage but it's the only important game on this list. It'll be the only game for the foreseeable future that is NOT pay to win, so if it fails it's your fault, and the MMO genra is doomed to soulless Asian cashgrabs, mobile gaming and whale farming until the day you die.

  4. I was pretty excited when I first heard and saw Star Citizen and I can't wait for it to be release and play. But as time passes by it has become forgotten. Forgotten….

  5. Thanks! Big fan of Dune so sad it's not higher on your list. With Conan and V:Rising developers I thought you'd like it more, but we'll see as we find out more of course.

  6. I feel Pantheon will never release with Brad McQuaid passed away the passion seems complety gone ans Camelot unchained as well started out way to ambious I feel a remake of DAOC would've been better to start then get something to stand on. However my passion for MMO's has disappeared since they both got annouced along with EQ:next. Riot's MMO and AoC are the only hopes left for this fading genre that was killed by WoW's massive success.

  7. You should look at the pantheon progress throughout 2022 – they finally have the funding to ramp up and have gotten more done in the last two years than the previous six.

Ashes should also be in the 2025 bucket. They had a big refactor plus engine migration. And that list of features… Jesus

  8. I wonder if any of those MMOs would create something as good as vanilla WoW. I never played vanilla before classic series, and when I gave it a try, at first I could not level because I was in that type of mentality where I appreciated easy work like retail WoW, but when I gave it a second chance I learnt so much and it opened my eyes to look at world differently, I started understanding what patience means and how to play at ease without rushing or competing.

Why I think all these MMOs will be bad is because they would not create immersive economy that is sustainable throughout all patches / for a whole game while it lasts… In vanilla wow if you wanted to do any type of competitive content on top tier level, you would need to farm gold. For example you start farming 30g per hour in first patch (later on you farm 80-120g on average if you are not mage booster which is 250g per hour), prices start low at first patch, but almost always you will end up getting flask for 1 hour of farming, for example if you want to do battlegrounds you would need flask that protects you from spells via resistance. It boosts chance to resist spell and it has % chance to lower dmg of certain spell schools. If you were warlock for example, you would play resistance stat build + on top of that you would want druid to buff you for more resistance stat and on top of that you would have flask that persist through dying that gives more stat resistance. This would create immersion like in no other MMO that I played, for 2h of BGs you would need 1 and half hour of farming gold to prepare properly. If you wanted to do dungeons or raids, you would need potions and flasks and food buffs too, if you got a new piece of gear – new 1h farming for enchant, so on and so on… On top of all that, you would have much more varieties to farm gold then retail WoW… While leveling as well, you would spend (not real numbers) 1k gold out of 1,5k gold that you earned while leveling, on training spells only, where is mount on top of that, thats another 1,5k gold to farm at max level + all these things that keeps you prepared for content. This all adds up and it creates some kind of immersive gameplay quality in RPGs that I never seen before in any MMO.

I hope devs understand the power behind vanilla WoW and I hope they start designing MMOs to be similar to that kind of gameplay… It was not mandatory, but if you wanted to be the best possible version of competitive level, you could farm all this and be prepared for content that you are doing…

Devs in vanilla wow created very comfort and casual gameplay, it was not hard to raid or do whatever content you wanted to do, but the immersion behind economy is really well done, even while leveling I would appreciate every copper and silver that I have because I knew that I would need that in future with each 2 levels to train spells or train professions or even save little bit by not training every spell that is not core rotation, to stockpile gold and have mount on 40lvl…. Vanilla is the best MMO there ever was.

  9. Out of all the games I saw a few that reminded me of other games. Games like Dark Souls or similar combat style games. One of the games reminded me a little of TUG before it was canned. Nerd Kingdom really let me down on that game. The Online Horizon game would be interesting. About the only game on this list I would consider playing if they have a good crafting system and character customization system.

  10. I'm interested in a bunch of these, but extra shout out for Horizon Online. Horizon is my absolute favorite single player game ever and I think that world is perfect for an MMO-lite (lite meaning limited people per world/ depending on map size, 30-50 people imo)

  11. Throne and Liberty with ABSOLUTELY be pay to win. And for that reason it's far far far below any other MMO on my wish list.

Crimson desert will no doubt be plagued with questionable MTs on top of it's B2P model. With the game designed around 'xp boosts' and the like, forcing you to pay up or grind 5x slower than everyone else.

Also any game that says "no map" will fail, apart from a few core nutcases. Why developers think this is somehow immersive I have no idea. Maps have been integral to exploration since the earliest days of mankind… But apparently they need to be eradicated for 'fun' to happen. If the only way to make your world enjoyable to explore is to remove the map, your world sucks. Plain and simple.

Unfortunately games these days are a massive business and they are made with money being the primary goal and not the desire to make a great game.

  12. As always, a well done commentary. I, too, and hoping AoC is a top10-ish MMO when—if—it comes out. Some of the others you covered are now on my radar of interest.

  13. You did not say anything about Granblue Fantasy MMO, it has been probably cancelled but, imo it is the best upcoming one, at least from the footage that we have seen. Other than that the most promising ones are Soulframe and the Crimson Desert.
