In truth, the German military kept looking for loopholes and tricks to rebuild its glorious power as the years passed. And one foolproof way to continue with its U-boat engineering legacy was to create a secret corporation.
Based in the Netherlands, NV Ingenieurskantoor Voor Scheepsbouw was a dummy company that, as early as the 1920s, researched and developed the submarines that would roam the Atlantic 20 years later.
Despite the limits that bound them, nothing would stop the Germans from bulking up their fleet well before World War 2 broke out…

By the Treaty of London in 1935, Germany was allowed to build U-boats provided the German navy or Kreigsmarine did not exceed a certain tonnge, which meant that the more U-boats they built the fewer surface ships could be built. The pocket battleships were an effort to overcome this handicap.

For 20 years, the various postwar German governments gave the Soviets the most update technology and in the war was surprised by Soviet technology.
The German rationale made no sense.

Something that’s always perplexed me is , how did a country that was so utterly broken by ww1 and their economy destroyed where did they get the funds to build so many U-boats and such a huge amount of aircraft along with everything else it takes to wage war in such a short time? And to do it and no one knew about it?
