Globalization used to be a guarantor of economic growth. No longer, and the losers are poorer nations. They have restricted access to global markets and are largely excluded from beneficial labor migration.
Unfettered access to the world’s economic markets should boost prosperity and foster peaceful international coexistence – in theory. But which countries take advantage of the opportunities presented by global competition? And which countries avoid it, preferring to protect their economies at the expense of the poor? And why does free global trade preach the unrestricted movement of goods, while setting limits on labor migration? With these questions and contradictions in mind, we travel through the US, Peru, Senegal and Europe.
An agreement with China means the former steel producing center Duisburg is eyeing a renaissance. America, on the other hand, blames China and globalization for its declining steel industry. Billions of US dollars are invested in domestic industries and agriculture as part of the country’s “America First” policy stance. This has a detrimental effect on poorer nations. For example Peru, a nation left behind by globalization that’s making little progress in the fight against poverty.
When it comes to worldwide migration, there are clear winners and losers. Spain’s farming sector is starved of workers, while the EU resists immigration. In countries like Senegal, where illegal fishing and the appropriation of farmland by international concerns has left people destitute, migrants are leaving in search of a better life. One of the chief beneficiaries of globalization is China, whose migrant workers represent the confidence and strategy of their powerful homeland. “Globalization in Crisis” is a two-part documentary telling the stories of those who benefit – and those who suffer – as a result of globalization.

What a sad cruel irony it is to see an American moaning about environmental standards and blaming China for the mess from a messy room full of products Made-In-China. They are the sad product of very cheap populism. But at the same time it is fascinating to see that we are in real trouble and very bad times are coming. Free trade and cheap labour was great for many until the day the real bill showed up and new players were running the business.
It is something so about the West, until Hitler, the Nationalism having no problem too and Germany lost and like usual West, they go to bipolar to bipolar so it is like all Globalism is correct and look at those Diasporas doing today. Destroying many traditions, only 1% Superrich and others are having so much problems. Disaparity causing so much problems. We be needing both sides but going to bipolar to bipolar is not good for all

James White will lose his job regarldess of what the Biden admin does because he is not even informed on the truth of his situation. You can't solve a problem you don't understand. How do I know – his claim that US used to have energy independence and lost it in 2 years! Thanks for the documentary. Many of the ideas expressed in the video were described by people such as Andre Gunder Frank et al in the 80's i.e. forty years ago. We now call it "globalization" and then we called it "underdevelopment" and before that it – in the 60's it was was called "The New Deal" by Kennedy. Let me cut to the chase: as long as one man's unbridled avarice is allowed to flourish i.e. neo-liberalism prevails, the savagery of the one percenters will wreak havoc upon the billions who make their unfettered wealth possible…..When will we ever learn? Quo vadis?
P.S. Micro Credit Programmes are like a Band-Aid strip which can NEVER halt the hemorrhaging of the poorer, exploited nations! Structural change on a global level incl. the TOTAL DESTRUCTION of the neo-liberal model which billions have embraced and which will eventually lead to EXTINCTION!
Love watching your videos. I wish you would have spent more time on Trump buying votes to win reelection. I didn't understand how giving 1 farmer 100s of thousands of $ would buy him enough votes. Why not go to China and listen to their story too? i see the whole documentary its aimed at them after all. isnt that what journalism is about? presenting both sides fairly, otherwise its propaganda and biased.
Global? BMW can’t even make a decent BMW any more. Globalization was a money grab. By the money (finance) industry. And they grabbed all the opportunity and left everything in tatters.
My greatest concern is for the poor countries to whom the opportunity to improve their standards of living, let alone, catch up with the technologically advanced countries, seem to be forever disappearing.
Problem of equal distribution of resources
Why blame on China??. These counties were exploited by USA and most become corrupted. China is approaching to these countries by doing investment. Better make use of it or find out how to make use of your country benefit. USA lost its steel and some other economic strength to China and some other countries. Why?, It is not more than American greed. Capitalist has no country and it is inevitable.
