Design changes, but not like this 😕
There is zero-excuse Disney can come up with for the lack of cleanliness in their parks. They can afford to keep up the maintenance, and anyone trying to argue otherwise is a fool. Disney NEEDS to be put on blast for this. They NEED to be held accountable.
Yep, what Tom said. I’ve been pushing hard NOT to go to the parks lately, as it’s become a challenge to have fun. The place is run down and crowded. It’s just not fun at this time. I’m hoping it improves as time rolls on, but right now it feels like the Pressler years. You keep right on ranting!
Your comments concerning the state of the Disney parks is spon-on!
Keep up the good work Tom. The lack of park up keep and systematic loss of theming is hear breaking. I only hope things can be reversed.
Cancel Aerosmith because of an unsubstantiated allegation from 50 years ago? Sounds reasonable
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode and I couldn’t agree with you more in how Disney has lost focus on what the true vision and standards Disney has always been known for. I hope they can quickly regain that vision and passion Disney once had. Thank you for always bringing the honest truth in the Disney news. Keep up the great work and have a great big beautiful tomorrow.
Disney please get it together clean, fix, and bring back package delivery, and get us off our phones
What you said is spot on. We’re giving it another year to see if things will turn around and, if not, we are selling our DVC membership and not returning to WDW again. We would go back to DLP though. It’s very sad that a company that has meant so much to so many people worldwide would turn it back on everything it once stood for:(
Happy new year tom.
Nothing better than a good Tom rant.
My parents started going to Disneyland in 1955 when Walt would walk Main Street and ask how things were. As a Disney Family and DVC owners, we won't stop going, but I can't justify all my vacation dollars 100% dedicated to Disney. Cleanliness, Maintenance, Customer Service and Theming IS important.
When I worked at Mansion I used to get real sick when I would go upstairs. Air quality wasn't great
Oh this is not the only dirt Disney will be exposed for. It's coming. And it's odd that I see no comments about the Aerosmith situation..
absolutely heartbroken about the missing girl, I truly hope she’s okay and safe
Couldn't agree more about what you say about Paris. We went to Paris for our honeymoon in November and we were blown away about the parks, and echo everything said about the parks and the service of the cast members. We will defo be returning!
Orlando is just far too expensive these days, and seems to be a shadow of what it once was. £10k for a two week holiday is just not affordable, which is sad to say as we've always enjoyed our Orlando holidays.
As a former front line cast member for over 6 years who just left last year I will blame it on them. They have become lazy and somehow entitled. Pick a random park, then pick a random custodial closet, and open the door. You will see three to five custodial cast member standing there. The unions protect worthless employees so when discipline does happen there are no repercussions. Raises aren’t based on doing a good job, you will get the same amount of money as the hardest worker in your department. So why bust your ass when we can all be lazy and get paid. Disney hasn’t been Disney in a long long time, and it will take someone a lot better than Igor to right this ship.
I’m 55 and have been going to the park since 72’ I remember even in the 80s they were still keeping the place tip top , there used to be teams of cast members just for getting gum off the sidewalk and people wiping down stuff everywhere
The coaster changes have already been in progress a while now.
I do remember when Main Street was so clean you felt like it wasn’t real, and the smells that they pumped into the air… once you were there you never forget all those senses at once
Its been known Steven Tylers a pedo. Thats why I stopped listening to Aerosmith 15 years ago.
Hi Tom! What you're saying about how the parks were in yesteryear is correct. As I recall from Disney Institute, trash cans were every 27 feet as not to make it impossible for guests to throw garbage out. However, not emptying those cans is another problem. I've seen trash cans that were at their max. Despite the issue of pay rate, there is no reason for the parks to be looking the way they are.
Also, when might Disney finally consider new monorails?? The original Mark IV monorails lasted around 18 years before they were upgrade to the current ADA compliant ones. Yes, they've been kept going, but they are well over 30 years old now. How many of us keep a car for 30 years for everyday use?
As for asbestos locations not shared – I was a cast member in the early-mid 1990’s while they were removing it from the Contemporary hotel.
So ALLEGATIONS warrant a retheme?? Good grief!! Guilty until proven innocent! Only in Snowflake America!! So tired of this! Disney IS held to a higher standard! They charge what they do and those that are willing to pay these prices do so, with the understanding that they WILL get top of the line service, accommodations as well as everything being updated, clean and picture perfect! If Disney can't uphold these standards, then they should start dropping their prices! Period! Of course, we all know they won't so STEP IT UP Disney Corp! Don't become the new Six Flags Corp!
Walt was very clear about wanting the parks to be extremely clean. He said many times that he wanted to make a clean place, that the whole family could enjoy because every other place was dirty. Disney needs to do better. They managed to keep it clean for 50 years, I don't know why they can't now.
Anything that applies to the construction of the Haunted Mansion attraction in the Magic Kingdom could apply to Tokyo Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, as well, unless Japan had better building standards than the US back then.
You know what’s crazy, there’s this TikTok account that spreads false rumors of Disney news for jokes and the account predicted a retheme of rock n roller coaster in 2023 as a joke. Here we go!
Normally I'd think you were being extremely naïve hoping Iger will turn around the parks' maintenance issues considering, as you admit, they started "before COVID" and "Before COVID" = "Before Chapek". But we know Disney pays attention to you, and your upcoming Maintenance Report will cause consternation, like how MiceAge's similar reports forced Disneyland into fixing a bunch of their problems. Having others contribute will only amplify your voice. You'll undoubtedly get a lot of flak for it, but I remember Disney used to BRAG about how you always saw people cleaning up the parks. It was literally one of Walt Disney's caveats for Guest Experience. “I don’t want the public to see the world they live in while they’re in the Park. I want to feel they’re in another world.” And "Give the public everything you can give them, keep the place as clean as you can keep it, and keep it friendly.”
While younger guests may not know of this, I think it's Disney's fault that they don't. During the later Eisner years, Disney stopped caring about making guests feel like they're in another world. They built many parks and lands and rides with cheap theming, which basically trained guests to care more about the IP characters than the worlds they inhabited. This continued throughout the Iger years. For example, in DCA and WDSP, Marvel characters used to roam through a cheap version of Hollywood, and now they roam through a cheap version of the MCU. Star Wars characters went from populating old theater buildings to a planet no Star Wars fan has ever heard of. Yes, there have been great worlds built – Cars Land and Pandora, to name a couple – but those have been rare cases. The ONLY land in all of DCA to even compare with Cars Land's theming is Buena Vista Street, which is the entrance area! And this park has had most of its lands rethemed, some more than once! "Construction Walls" is a more cohesive theme than 80% of what's going on elsewhere in this park. And it's not the only park where guests aren't finding themselves in "another world".
Younger fans have NEVER known the Disney parks we grew up with. Because it hasn't been a few years that they've been this way. They've been "lesser" for at least 20. DCA is turning 22 years old. WDSP is turning 21. DHS is turning 33! Epcot is getting its first major refresh IN 40 YEARS!!!!! Unless young people have lived their lives in a Magic-Kingdoms-Only bubble, they've seen plenty of Disney at its worst, and many have clearly gotten used to it. Sigh…
Years ago our family visited WDW. All of us saw and pointed out that the park was dirty and getting run down even back then. Small World needed a paint job both inside and out and the seating area of the food on Main Street was disgusting. That was the first time in 50 years that I heard an employee curse. Yes I am that old. I grew up at Disneyland. My mom worked for the phone company and they closed the park for "Telephone night at Disneyland" once or twice a year. Had my high school grad night at the park and my husband of 40 years and I had our 1st date there. Anyway, back to the issue you were speaking on. We were on the sky way buckets (yes it was years ago) and a young man dressed in his liederhosen helping guests into the bucket was telling his counterpart that if he didn't get his f-ing break soon he was going to go anyway. I just couldn't believe my Mickey ears. During that same visit we park hopped to Animal Kingdom and took the train around the park. We passed by the back of the cages and some guy was standing there next to a car smoking. Walt never let the guests see how the magic happened. There should have been trees, bushes, something to block the view..again it pulled you out of the magic that immersive experience that Disney is known for that sets it above the rest. We haven't been back since the prices have now made it unaffordable. We actually still have one day left on our forever tickets. Unless things get better we won't be using those again. It's a shame.
