The first two adaptations I saw of this fantastic book had happy endings! It was maddening since Vera is guilty, they all are, in the book she turns out to be the most evil of all ten in the eyes of the murderer. (The guiltiest stay alive the longest so they suffer.) Thank God someone finally respected the ending.
