Wasn’t quite what Zach was hoping for.

Something tells me zach might not enjoy the callisto protocol guys
…I didn't have much issue with the games dodging mechanic, its important to remember that its press AND hold a direction to dodge and that you have to alternate the direction you dodge in. It doesn't actually matter which direction you dodge in regards to their attacks, just don't don't repeat a dodge direction. For the beginning of the game the gun is meant to be used as a combo extender rather than a source of damage. playing like that i never once ran out of ammo. This changes by mid-game once you get a number of damage upgrades on for the gun and you get more guns in general. The game has plenty of other issues though.
I think most of this is nitpicky. I beat Callisto protocol in 3 days and it was fine. I play on Xbox though. I loved it. Zach only played for like an hour or two and then spoiled the story for himself? It seems like he ruined his own opinion but being bitter and angry because couldn't beat the game. Just saying.
The combat is even funnier when you find out Angry Joe found out that most combat encounters play out the exact same in the way they attack. dodge left and then dodge right, repeat for nearly all enemies. I was thinking about getting this to try it out, but i'm thankful I decided to get Evil West instead.
The fact Colonial Marines had it's xenomorphs fixed almost entirely by an incredibly small mod is the funniest thing
Happy belated, hope you got something better than this
The calisto protocol is not what i was wanting out of it but i still had a great time with it.
my biggest thing is that its just not scary. By making it melee focused, and only having one melee, you get so used to the combat so quick, once you get past that stupid dodge mechanics, most the enemies are stupid easy, especially with telekinesis. The atmosphere gets so repetitive so fast; they went for waaaaaaaaaay too much detail vs variety.
Should give a game negative atmosphere a look it's a dead space successor game that was announced before Calisto protocol and looks way more faithful to ds series
Half an hour rant huh
Alright here we go
So as someone who was also excited for this game, I'm just gonna tick off things that Zach was mistaken on as I listen to the video, for the most part, everything Zach said is exactly right and these mistakes do not improve the game, just thought I'd play devils advocate. The game is a solid 4-5/10, it does nothing great but there's far worse things you could buy but get it on a sale for like 75% off.
The dodge system is just Left>right>left etc. or Right>left>right you do not need to dodge in a specific direction, you pick either left or right and alternate, completely trivializes the boss fights which have exactly one attack, allowing you to hold Left or Right and never be hit.
Ammo is actually really plentiful it's just for the first half of the game you have 6 item slots and ammo stacks to 12 or 18, in the later half you get 12 slots but shooting is so useless that it's really only used for shooting enemy weakpoints after they've taken damage or they mutate. (That would have pissed off Zach if he got that far)
Did I mention that you fight the same boss 4 times in two chapters?
Heavy attack is an upgrade, it's mainly for crowd control as it knocks enemies down or into spikes.
The entire combat system is wonky which is why block seems to not work sometimes, same with the dodges, sometimes you just get hit.
The ending is a jumpscare, it's Jacob looking at a screen and then the final boss pops his head up and screams but I imagine this will be a "Vision" in the DLC as the final boss mutates into a monster thing but is normal in the jumpscare.
There's 3 sections with the robots, 1 forced stealth and then two that you can kill by getting a headshot, hiding and then headshot again. Repeat.
The Pilot does pop up due to the Implant "Messing with your head" as a sort of Nicole type vision, it's honestly irritating as he's just used for jumpscares.
Happy birthday Zack
10:42 THANKS GOD . finally someone spoke about how bad the fire look like . i don't care about it being a netpick or anything . low fps fire that look bit pixelated is no excuse . 20 years old game have better fires . like . who think flat GIF of fire look nice ???
Worst Dead Space knock off I have ever seen, it wasn’t even scary, lame.
I watched Ray Narvaez jr play this game and i took away 2 things. 1. fighting more than one enemy at once is the worst thing ever. 2. he did a funny Callisto dodge dance on stream.
So I didn't clock how much these guys actually played but it sounds like one played a couple of hours and the other hasn't played it?
And when you fight bosses, they reeeaaaly want you to use the guns!
Yeah, the PC port sucked also I hear.
All the previews of this game literally screamed "dead space without the necromorphs to me" so I was very cautious of it. Then when I learned that there was a review embargo until the games release date, I knew it would launch with some serious issues.
A shame, it had plenty of hype around it and backing to it and they decide to release it with major performance problems and a lack-luster combat system.
I see a lot of people complaining about the mechanics of the game, and rightfully so, but I rarely see people mention just how ass backward the introduction is.
The first part up until you get thrown into jail is great. But then you're immediately thrown into a combat encounter with the zombie. Then, after that you have a long section where they build tension.
Compare to dead space where you have the long buildup to the first necromorph.
From that it's clear they didn't want an actual horror experience like dead space or alien isolation or the early resident evil. They wanted an action game with horror trappings like dead space 2 or resident evil 4.
And then there's the foot stomp. Which is in there just to have a dead space reference and otherwise makes no sense.
In dead space the foot stomp is there as a way to dismember corpses to prevent them turning into necromorph. It's also used to break some crates. It make sense as a mechanic and in the story of the game.
In Calisto protocol the foot stomp is there….because deadspace had a foot stomp. And what does it do mechanicaly ? It makes dead enemy drop items. Because that makes so much sense, let me search a corpse by stomping on it.
I still enjoyed it
And it's amazing how many people are praising this game so much when there are so many glaring issues. I feel our standards as a society has vastly dropped.
Why is it that nobody ever tries to look deeper into why things went wrong? Like, look at fallout 76. Everyone was quick to go for the jugular of the devs. Not once acknowledging that the decisions for the game were being made by execs and investors. And once the buyout happened and it was confirmed (quite literally) that the execs and investors were making the decisions, there was dead silence from everyone one made a review that attacked the devs
Let's make it simple. Dead space but badddddd
Is there a link to the stream? I kinda wanna watch it now, and I'm having trouble finding it.
Personally one of the first signs of disappointment for me was the creature design. I mean, look at the necromorphs. While the Pukers were (somewhat) like run-of-the-mill zombies, the rest are extremely iconic, where you only need to see a silhouette to instantly recognize Dead Space. The red band trailer too, made it seem like it was this "The Thing" esque creature, suddenly vomitting tentacles to mash that guy's face.
Then the trailers start coming out and most of the enemies just look like lumpy dudes. Of course, I'm exagerating a little, but when compared to the necromorphs, Callisto Protocol zombies hardly even deviate from your standard zombie trope.
Easily my most anticipated game I was going to come out this year, didnt have a chance to get it at launch and still don't have it seems I dodged a major bullet
I see Mike's words of wisdom finally reached Zach. Don't get excited for things before they're out.
If you expect it to be crap and it's good, then you'll be pleasantly surprised. If you expect it to be good and it's crap, it'll feel awful.
