The Rolls Royce Merlin Engine powered the Spitfire, the Hurricane, the Mosquito, the Lancaster Bomber and the P51 Mustang. It was arguably the best engine of WW2. But when it first came into service, it was a disaster. This is the story of how Rolls-Royce developed and ultimately mass-produced the engine that helped the Allies dominate the skies.
The Second World War was a war waged not just by generals and frontline soldiers. It was fought also by scientists, engineers and inventors. The ability to marshal resources, to develop new war machines and weapons and to produce them swiftly and efficiently was the key to victory. WW2 was won not on the battlefield, but in the factories.

I watched all of seasons 1 and 2 and thought "I wish there were more," but then saw and realized how recent the videos were released and then thought, "oh, there will probably be more/they're still making them." …Yay! I was right!

As it was noted, she designed the ‘Tilly’s Orifice’, a thimble-shaped brass flow restrictor (later refined to a flat washer) with precisely calculated dimensions to allow just enough fuel flow for maximum engine power.
The device was immensely popular with pilots; In early 1941, Shilling travelled with a small team to fit the restrictors in one RAF base after another, giving priority to front-line units. By March 1941 the device had been installed throughout RAF Fighter Command. Officially named the 'R.A.E. restrictor'.

Another Brit documentary on the most over rated plane ever, really if you would only watch docs from the UK you would think that Spitfire flown by Montgomery single handily won WW2

Really what did the Spitfire do after the Battle of Britain? The P-51, the P-47, the mosquitos, and the P-38 carried the war , they were attacking, unlike the way way way way over rated Spitfire always used on defense.
The Spitfire is the most unmasculine little girl fighter ever.

Hi everyone! Seems most are happy about a season 3. Yay! I’m going to do a poll on which WWII engine was best since there seem to be a difference of opinion here. Calling on the experts to give me suggestions which engines should be in the competition (5 maximum) Just reply to this thread. Otherwise, I’ll pluck suggestions from the comments.
