It was a time of unprecedented developments in the fields of geometry, medicine, astronomy, philosophy, arts, algebra, and many others, as scholars from across the known world came to Baghdad, Cairo, Cordoba, and other major Islamic cities to practice and hone their crafts.

  1. Truly they did a lot for medical science that is going under-appreciated today. Also nearly nobody in the West knows they preserved the thoughts and teachings of Greco-Roman philosophers, which is darkly, comically ironic. I'm no massive fan of Organised Religion in general, and very aware of the horrors done in it's name. It wasn't Religion who invented the Nuclear Warhead however. This problem of committing grotesque acts in the name of Justice is a higher, bigger problem than merely religion or science or atheism or economic / political beliefs.
It's all of them and more in the ludicrous Humanity VS Humanity Infighting of the Ideology Wars. Time for our species to stop being moody combative teenagers and grow up. Or we're doomed.

  2. "Yes, but apart from surgery, optics, chemistry, alchohol, algebra, names for multiple stars in astronomy, bringing numbers and paper to Europe, saving multiple Greek and Roman philosophical manusicripts, what have Arabs gave to us?"

  3. ISLAMIC GOLDEN AGE!! IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT THAT PEOPLE STRUGGLE WITH MATHS. WE WERE FINE WITH ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION AND SUCH. BUT NOOOO! YOU JUST HAD TO INTRODUCE LETTERS COULDN'T JUST LEAVE IT WELL ENOUGH ALONE! A POX ON YOUR HOUSES FOR 100 YEARS. STARTING IN 1100…

  4. Greeks should be credited for atuomons since they created basically the first computer. Islams religion much like it's "golden age" is just plagerism and using other peoples ideas as and say it's their own.

  5. Funny the Italian Renaissance only started when the byzantine refugees were coming to Italy, bringing with them their knowledge… Knowledge the Eastern empire already had, way before the Muslims even existed.

The Renaissance was a result of this flood of refugees, check the timeline they match up exactly.

  6. One of the Islamic scholars who most interests me is Ibn Rushd, Latinized to Averroes, from Cordoba. He was another of those Islamic polymaths who wrote works on philosophy, theology, medicine, astronomy, physics, psychology, mathematics, Islamic jurisprudence and law, and linguistics. He was heavily influenced by Aristotle and in turn his commentaries and extensions of Aristotle's works, translated by Jewish scholars, made their way to medieval, pre- and early Renaissance courts in Europe. Thomas Aquinas learned Aristotle from Ibn Rushd's detailed commentaries on Aristotle's works and called him simply: The Commentator.

  7. Islam has never created anything of value in science. Brilliant scientists in the arab world innovated some great things. The religion had nothing to do it anymore than Da Vinci's inventions were "Christian inventions". Science and religion are two opposite schools of thought.

  8. Odd religion, Islam. Spend half a millenia+ advancing science, medicine and technology, and then spend the rest of it's existence denying it as sinful western satanism. Whish they'd make their minds up! 😂

  9. Wait… The man that invented the method of using sand to make clear glass was named Furnace? Which is not a Islamic/Arabic word…. I wonder where he got the idea to get into the glass making industry….

  10. I always wondered who was the evil man responsible for algebra and now I know (I’m terrible at maths!).
The golden age of Islam and its scholars gave us so much! Why isn’t this taught in schools?
Very interesting video! Well done Simon and team 😊👏🏻💯🙌🏻🔥

  11. Are you sure it's Islam and not Arab? As far as I know, Islam is "kill the infidel" and it started with Mohamad when the Europeans, lead by the Catholic Church, decided to take back their countries from the Arab invaders. (Don't call me stupid, if I'm wrong. It's ignorance.)

I also notice that no women are listed among those who contributed to the Golden Age of Islam.

  12. Theyve done nothing but fight and destroy each other now for the last 500 years no innovating at all since their golden age. A religion of barbarism and extreme suffering. The religion has not changed at all since the era of the crusades. Their "culture" is one of oppression and murder as well as sucking every dime out of any profitable business or natural resource. Slavery is alive and well within the Islamic culture and it sure as hell isnt one worth celebrating today. They have destroyed more history and knowledge in the last 20 years than the Europeans did in 200.

  14. I think it would be the annihilation of Baghdad and subsequent shift in theological thought towards the sciences is what caused the end of this era.
America is probably at the end of its scientific era considering half its population supports fascist regimes and anti-scientific thought. I doubt America will be a place of scientific achievement for too much longer.
