Back to basics, I mean bases for this video! I got my hands on some Base Ready mixes from @GeekGamingScenics thanks to the lovely people at EireHobbies! Eirehobbies is a fantastic Irish hobby store with a online shop that does next day delivery nationwide…perfect for all us hobbyists who just want to try out new ideas asap, or run out of supplies during a hobby streak! Check them out! I took the opportunity to try out the Base Ready mixes on two models I’ve previously done tutorials on, a Sister of Battle and a Kill Team Necron! Find out what I think and if they’ll replace my usual methods!

This stuff looks great
After doing my first diy base of sand and gravel these seem like a great substitute if only for everthing being in one bag. Great video as always Andy 🙂
This is essentially the old school way of basing minis. PVA glue on the base (I presume the basing glue is essentially that) and pull it through a tub of sand and rocks. Of course this stuff is pre-painted, which certainly speeds thing up a bit.
It definitely works well. It gives a nice looking result very easily. I don't mind crackle paint, but this is a nice alternative.
Great video i will have to try this product out. Although after looking at the sealant is that just watered down PVA glue?

Great stuff Andy. Eire Hobbies are a very professional outfit. I use take away plastic boxes for basing materials.
I’ve used their basing material quite a lot in the past. I used the Mediterranean soil for my Stormcast in particular.
It could be the bags are a way to keep the price down…maybe 👀
looks nice, I think I would buy some and try it if I didn't already own two tubs of AK Interactive texture paint, their diorama products are pretty sweet for making bases. Rather buy new minis than more basing alternatives :p
I like some of the less powdery ready basing material – especially Fields of New Zealand
I’ve nothing against geek gaming scenics, I think they’re a fine company. I’m not a huge fan of their basing bags primarily because earth/dirt isn’t monotone like that. You’ll have variation, even if it’s only slight. I’d want to hit both with a dry brush of something. Just to add a bit of contrast. Especially the black basing with a black rim. I know it’s adding extra steps to what is already effectively an extra step. I’m just being difficult and picky.
With these you want to glue the big chunks down first with CA, let them dry then do the PVA and dunk.

Great intro at the right time for me, since I've painted several minis, and they ALL need to be properly based! I was just curious about the best kind of glue to use, and you gave me some useful info- Thanks!
I use a lot of the geek gaming scenic range and have only positive feedback about it. Can see your point on the bags instead of containers but I buy everything online anyway lol

Great vid. Only thing I can see wrong is what I've learnt from other vids. The glue layer needs to be a good 1 or 2 mil thick on the base. It then locks onto rocks and the like straight away
I tried one of the base ready ranges for some of my Middle Earth. The tekkers I worked out was to pick out a few larger pieces, stick them directly onto the base and then to dip or sprinkle the rest over the top. That way you get the coverage but definitely get a large piece for height and visual interest.
These look great, going to go check out their range now. I agree with you about the bags – looked so much better when you could see it in the tub. I guess it's a cost thing.
I wonder about the sealant through an airbrush. Is it water based?

I just received a bag of the revised formula mars earth and I'm quite disappointed – its sadly much duller and looks more like a slightly redish brown rather than having that other worldly look the old stuff had
I love Geek Gaming stuff. Easy to use and looks great
with pva i find it is too thick and it doesn't absorb the basing sand etc, so i use airbrush thinner and flow improver OR Isopropyl alcohol to break the surface tension and make it easier to work with
Eire Hobbies is that Ollie's shop per chance ? Like the Martian Red but not so much the Black, as I use Vallejo scenic coverage and as I bought plenty, may as well use it up.

I live about 20 minutes away from EireHobbies, great place to go to. They are a great group of lads who know what they're doing. Also a great place to look for some more obscure model ranges apart from 40k!
I use the exact same tubs for my Geek Gaming products but unlike you I ate the sweets. 🙂
