  1. If Thomas Jefferson had known about Phylloxera, Virginia wines would be even better, and Europe might have avoided the infestation. Ah, well.
Virginia is now among the top five wine producing US states, even after they destroyed all of Virginia's grape vines when the state entered the Prohibition period.

  2. Wild turkeys are really fun to observe from afar, but those f$%&ers are MEAN. Tasty, but mean. I live in a rural part of Northern Virginia. I actually saw a group of turkey hens in a field by the side of my road last week. We usually only see the boys when they show off in spring. The boys are dangerous, but like with bears, the real danger is messing with a momma turkey hen.

  3. So, Tom Cruise wearing Ray-Bans—wasn't that routine product placement? I don't know about the '80s, but nowadays, no product appears in a movie or TV show without the marketing department paying the producers heavily for getting featured. Maybe it was Tom Cruise saving the Ray-Bans that started the practice. 🤔

  4. Its funny that Simon mentioned cassette tapes. You can by them new in supermarkets in Japan. I'm visiting family and almost bought some for the nostalgic value…
