When bratty 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother (Catherine OβHara) makes him sleep in the attic. After the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin, he awakens to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true. But his excitement sours when he realizes that two con men (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home.

Watch the movie and stop judging the parenting. When is she going to catch on that there are two families in play. More importantly, if there wasnβt such chaos, there wouldnβt be a COMEDY movie; it would be called Home Empty, Everyone is in France, But there are no laughs. Chris Columbus should have consulted Clarise and not made the movie at all.
Enjoyed watching his with you both. Check out an evil side of McCauley sometime in "The Good Son." Pretty sure you'll enjoy that one.
There's a theory that the McCallisters are rich because Kevin's mum is a big successful fashion designer which is why she's walking around in suits/business wear at the start (looking like the more traditional breadwinner) and also why there are so many mannequins around the house.
I think you two may be a little hard on the mom. Not because how she treated Kevin early but for forgetting him. You have to re-watch a few times to catch all the factors that led to it. First one ticket was accidentally thrown away. Next the power outage caused them to oversleep. Then the neighbor kid was snooping in the van during the headcount and was counted making the headcount correct. The parents assumed Kevin was in the other van on the way to the airport. Then they barely made flight. Not sure why they were not all seated together but factor all this and the fact its a movie and Kevin being left "Home Alone" is essential to the plot, I think we can cut mom a little slack.π
The McCallisters are a shifty family, and I will stand by that until I die. Their shitty planning does not entitle them to my sympathy.

One fun fact that iconic moment in the movie is when Macaulay screamed in that bathroom with the aftershave that was not supposed to happen. It was an accident, but the Director kept it like that in the movie.
I wanna see the Home alone version where the Mom gets a plane and arrives early… only to fall victim to all the traps.
When I was 8 or so, I woke up in the house all by myself. My dad (a single parent) and my brother weren't home and I looked around and saw the light shining in like it was noon so I freaked out thinking, 'oh crap, I'm late for school.' I grabbed my backpack and rushed out. I thought it was weird that no people or cars passed me on the street but I REALLY felt it was strange when I got to the school and, not a soul in sight. I went to my classroom but the door was locked. I went to the office, also locked. I was getting really confused as I wandered around the school until I saw the janitor who, upon seeing me asked what I was doing there at 5 AM. What happened was that day was the Summer equinox, the longest day of the year so the sun rose super early. A half hour prior to me waking up my dad had to run an errand that he wouldn't have time for later. My brother had woken up and couldn't sleep so he asked to go with. My dad says they got home and say I was gone then noticed my backpack and lunch were missing so they deduced what happened. I meanwhile had the whole playground to myself for a few hours.

I'm so glad y'all commented about how horrible Kevin's family is. Most people completely ignore that and think Kevin is horrible for saying he never wanted to see his family again. If my brother called my kid a little jerk the way Kevin's uncle did, I'd kick him out of my house.

One filmmaking fact – to make sure Macauley Culkin was safe, they filmed the scene backwards where Harry and Marv almost hit him with the car. They had him stand in front of the car, scream, then had the driver (assuming it's Joe Pesci, but who knows) put it in reverse. After that, they reversed the footage to make it look like what it is in the film.
Home Alone is a Christmas tradition movie in my household. Love these two films.
You want another John Candy movie. The Great Outdoors. Great hilarious film.
Ha, your youth is showing fella. Aftershave used to contain high amounts of alcohol. It would burn your skin after a shave, many old school barbers would sap it on your neck instead of the cheeks. Used to slap some βbrutβ on after a shave and your cheeks would be red for 3 hours
The brother to the dad paid for all the plane tickets! Kevins parents were watching their kids and wait till they finished the school semester. Also I always wondered how Kevin cleaned the stairs in the basement cause they were covered in tar! Also I always wondered if Kevins parents repaid Buzz for all the money Kevin used why they were gone!
Not gonna lie, for Kevin to sleep through all the chaos that was them all rushing to get out, he must've gotten into some hardcore narcotics or something cause I'm a heavy sleeper, but all that noise would at least cause me to stir a little bit
