In this history documentary we explore the immediate aftermath of the famous battle of Thermopylae. This famous clash between the Greeks and Persians is always mentioned as a major point in studies of the Greco Persian Wars. And yet once mention, the narrative often jumps to the next clash at the Battle of Salamis. Here we choose to linger upon the battlefield itself to see what was the fate of the defeated Greeks and how both the Persians and Greek Allies plotted their next moves. This involves the slaughter of the 300 spartans, the corpse of Leonidas, the story of the hidden dead, the branding of the captives and more.
In follow up episodes we will cover the rest of the Second Greco Persian War with the Battle Salamis, the Battle of Plataea, and the counter-offensive against the Persian Empire.

its shaming how this video biased in favor of Greeks. I don't denied what Persians did in Greece this was common practice in ancient times in every place even today in modern era this things happen. when there is only one type of source on this events u cant rely on it and say truly this is what happened especially from rival nation who won war ultimately. and u call Persians barbarians (who created largest civilization in the time but because Greeks don't like their rival they call them barbarians), and told me what civilized Alexander did in Tyre and Gaza (selling all civilian as slave) or burning Persepolis to the ground or what civilized romans did to Corinth (selling all civilian as slave), killing one million people in Gaul after conquered it. really funny how people persist against understanding.

That the Greeks took more casualties would make sense since we could loose huge volleys of arrows at them without necessarily engaging too much in close combat. I say our 1000 dead on the field is accurate and 19000 was made up by Herodot.

There was no United Greece back then but just cities that consider themselves Greeks. So its wierd how you mention Macedon and then Greece . Macedonia was just another City like Athens / Sparta that considered itself Greek. So either say "Persians traveled to Greece including Macedonia OR just state the cities with their names . Unless of corse u deliberately did it . But you should choose wisely ur words when it comes to stuff like that since there is an ongoin propaganda for political reasons today from a slav/ Bulgarian origin tribe named Skopja or North """Macedonia"" as they wanna call themselves so desperately and they are not related with the Anciant Greek Kingdom of Alecander the Great . Ps; oh yes. Decide whether you call them Persians or Medes or at least explain that the Greeks use to interchange their name from one to the other. It is confusing to frivolously change their naming without explanation or warning. The truth is that even then they called themselves Iranians, but it is that Herodotus and other ancient Greek historians didn’t know this and thought that they were all Persians (Parsi) or all Medes, which were just the names of the various Iranian tribes. Oh yes, and they were certainly not barbarians (especially compared to the tremendously barbarous Spartans), they had a great and illustrious civilisation too.
