I actually love that they are using different methods…just some aren't executed well… like 1000 steps is clunky…if it worked better and saved the steps(I wouldn't mind even more steps if it saved it)…also npcs mentioning evos would be nice
My thoughts:
Gholdengho: I think Nintendo was trolling people who played Breath of the Wild for being completionists by making the reward for getting all the Korok Seeds be a dollop of Korok ****, but 999 coins isn't too bad. I actually have about 600 Gimmighoul Coins just by going through the game and grabbing those Gimmighouls which show up on the overworld. You can defeat Gimmighouls to get 50-60 coins a pop. If you want a Goldengho for your playthrough from start to finish, you are seriously wishing for too much as there are far better ghost types. I mean, I want Flutter Mane but my copy of Scarlet isn't even halfway done with the Treasure Hunt yet so no Area Zero for me.
Palafin: I don't mind that you have to be online to evolve one Pokemon, especially one as gimmicky as this dolphin. (It's even weaker than its pre-evolved form unless you swap it out, and then it'll change to a new form that is more uber than a legendary Pokemon. XD) But I don't do competitive ever so I just evolve it for the Dex entry and release it. There are far better water types.
Armarouge/Ceruledge: I don't see the evolutions as bad. Sure you have to get certain materials for a trade, but I think this is a breath of fresh air and they can easily find other ways to get the armor to evolve this little fire knight in future games.
Pawmot, Rabscor, Bramblin: I was a bit annoyed on how you have to walk around with the Pokemon until I learned that this is only the condition that you need to trigger, and you need to level it up normally after that. Guides are stupidly vague about what you need to do. As for the steps, law doesn't say you have to do the steps in a hostile area – you can just run around in circles in Levincia and you'll be fine. 🙂
Dunsparce, Girafarig: Come on, they've had evolutions since Gen 4 where you have to have a move in the moveset to evolve Pokemon (Ambipom, Mamoswine, Lickilicky) so this is nothing new. Also, these moves you have to have are actually pretty powerful Hyper Drill has only 5 PP but that's because it ignores Protect and does normal damage anyways and Twin Beam is a psychic-type Double Hit. ^_^
Annhilape: It's not that hard to use a move 20 times and then evolve it. It shows that the games can now keep track of stuff like how many times you've used a move.
Scovillian: You not only need a Fire Stone, but you can't use it until Capscikid is Level 30. I think this is an interesting means of preventing metagamers from evolving Pokemon until they've trained the weakling up a bit and now that Happiny and its evolutions are wild Pokemon, it's easy to raise Pokemon up to Level 30. 🙂
Kingambit: I don't know if this Pokemon will ever be in future generations because the method of evolving it is the most complex ever, but this method sort of forces you to understand the lore of the Pawniard line – they are samurais who war against each other for status. By having a Bisharp wear this special item and then defeat other Bisharp who lead packs, it is telling you "Hey, this Pokemon, after winning many victories against their own kind, evolves into a warlord." It's a really nifty set of backstory you wouldn't get if they, say, made it so you just had to equip it with a King's Rock and evolve it by trade like Slowking. I like how they did this. It's annoying as f***, sure, and I don't think they'd be able to implement it in future games, but neat nonetheless.
You've always needed friends to play pokemon for trade evolutions but now with home and wireless trading I would say it's easier
You can get 50 or even higher amounts of Gimmighoul coins at once by defeating one in a chest. Also, the Magnezone, Leafeon and Glaceon evolutions had already been changed to stones in Gen 8.
The Magneton evolution change is not new, it was implemented in Sword and Shield along with Pokemon not in this game like Charjabug. It's nice that they did the same thing with Crabrawler as nobody could get Crabominable in the games it was debuted in, Sun and Moon, until you headed to Victory Road at the endgame. (They moved it up to being able to evolve it when you reached the Tapu Village, before the Ghost Trial, but you still had to do six trials before you could get Crabominable.)
Thanks!
I genuinely love Bisharps evolution method.
Its a shame its so late game (but then again Bisharp is already a late game evolution in it of itself anyways). But I thought it was one of the more clever ways.
The "Lets Go walking" evolutions, not so much. But eh, gotta show off the function somehow I guess.
Trade evolutions back in the 90s were a great marketing point for the franchise. What with the link cable and all. But in the 21st century where "online trading" is so much more common, trade evolutions kind of lost their luster imo.
I got Gholdengo the other day & its amazing. It surfs around on a surfboard made of gold coins.
Stats, move pool, typing. All fantastic. Well worth it. But I'm never ever EVER doing that shit again.
The steps evolutions would have been great in any other game in the series where following was a fun instead of the annoying chore that slows you down we have in S&V.
But yeah trade evos & co-op evos in general are a pain in the ass to say the least. We know why they exist & its not to bring people together.
I just wonder how people learn of these evolution. Like who is using their bishop to defeat other 3 wild one that are holding a item. Or punching 20 times a new move primape learns.
The Palafin evolution method really sucks for me because none of my friends or relatives will get the game and I’m not subscribed to Nintendo online 😅
Also did they seriously not include the link cable item from legends Arcues or retcon trade evolutions? 🤦🏻♂️
I believe Home’s GTS still does not require NSO, so once Home gets implemented in SV, people with no local friends playing the games and no NSO should still be able to get exclusives and Palafin as well.
You don't even need to have your Bisharp hold a leader's crest to evolve it. Just teach it a Fightg itype move like Brick Break, have it K.O. three Bisharps that lead a pack of Pawniard and it will evolve at the next level up.
Kingambit is a badass pokemon btw.
if anyone's curious, palafin evolving works just fine in local coop, so yes you don't need a online subscription
I think Trade evolutions and the Palafin evolution should have an extra alternate method to evolve, like leveling up while holding an item and having max friendship. And if you want to evolve it earlier, you can trade it or play online with someone else. Also, I feel Palafin should be able to level up after winning a raid battle.
all evolutions can easily be obtained in tera raids. i have the whole dex complete barring exclusives without trading. as for gholdengo, defeating or capturing the chest form nets you a lot of coins and they are on each tower. hope this helped.
Yeah the dolphin pokemon's evolution method is kinda hot garbage. Luckily I do have the Nintendo online because of some features in ACNH so I can just ask someone on Twitter or something to pop into my game while I level it up but I still think a game update should add a secondary method for players to get around that. Like Legends Arceus added the link cable item so players could evolve pokemon that usually only evolve through trading so they already acknowledge this is an issue for pokedex completion. There's no reason to undo that progress now!
Is there still a local coop? I thought you need always need to have Nintendo online to do the trading evolution.
this video is kinda outdated, a lot af false information
