Dark creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar have come back around with another reality bending mind warping mystery of a series, this time aboard an immigrant ship at the turn of the century and its encounter with an enigmatic ghost ship in the Netflix series 1899. Themes like missing children and recurring three point symbols that were present in Dark make their way into the new mystery complete with a machine of unknown purpose that is clearly mucking about with what is real or not. Sporting a cast and crew from across Europe, Germanyâs most expensive tv show has made a big splash debut on Netflix which hopefully saves it from Netflixâs hair trigger cancel button. Just like Dark, 1899 is littered with references and nods to suggest to the viewers and characters alike that nothing is quite what it seems. For 1899 that takes the form of Greek and Egyptian mythology as well as heavy doses of Aristotle and Plato. The show takes pains to explain Platoâs Allegory of the Cave that demonstrates how perception can create a false assumption of reality. Less overtly are references to mythology revolving around the afterlife including the name Kerberos, the three headed dog that keeps the dead in the underworld, Prometheus who brought man fire only to be tortured for eternity for his efforts and possibly even an allusion to Charon, the boatman who brings souls to the afterlife. Virginia Wilson's dresses sometimes have the triangle symbol embroidered on the pattern.
I didn't have the braincells to understand this show
by the end, the other characters' story lines seemed like irrelevant filler
i loved dark and i also loved 1899. personally although it seemed kinda slow i liked the build up each episode gets closer and closer to explaining everything. loved the acting and the cgi and cinematography was very impressive the plot and characters were good. i really hope thereâs gonna be a season 2
Sorry but you lost me at "why isn't eleven binary for eleven? Well, binary is expressed in groups of 4"
how about the fact that in the first episode you can clearly see that there is a "glitch" and the hand of lin ying moves in a "buggy" way. It is the first scene in the dining hall when everyone drinks their tea at the same time
3 problems with this show
1. Too many characters you grow to care less and less because of poor backstories and the language barrier is a negative imo. Somebody rants in a different language and the others just take it in silently and emphatize. wtf
2. You understand nothing. New things/gadgets are introduced up to the last episode so you have no desire to watch it until the show has completed. Dark balances the art of answering some things and explaining new ones to keep you interested. and finally
3. Poor motivation. Dark was about changing the past and how everything was already preset no matter how hard they try. Depressing but understandable. 1899 is more about wanting to forget something so they signed up for this but now they want to know because they forgot. sighh.
â¤<<<<*Investing in crypto now should be in every wise individuals list, in some months time you'll be ecstatic with the decision you made today*>>>>>
Also we observe people of different races aboard the space ship which is to preserve the human diversity for the future.
I do without the sick queer scenes. So discusting
With 1899 what I missed is a coherent plot, interesting characters, intelligent dialog and an appropriate soundtrack.
Best show on tv right now. Batter than Star Wars andor
Man hating, gay promoting, Christian bashing terrible show.. Zzzz zzzzz
stop stealing videos
Yes, it's not dark, you can't expect this show to be like it, maybe it will eventually be superior to dark or maybe not, the real thing is if it is going to be good overall. I find it entertaining, I do not felt the need to rush through the episodes, but at least interested enough to finish it.
It was way better than dark. Absolutely loved it
Amazing! I watched it twice and I never do that unless itâs a masterpiece.
Its been done many times nothing new!!!
Welp. I shouldn't have come to this video after only having watched the first episode. Ooof.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who made a comparison to Ghost Ship when describing this to other people đ Mix in Lost, Deep Rising & Sucker Punch and it's one crazy ride!
The language barrier between the characters makes it frustrating sometimes. But I notice as the episodes progress, the characters stop saying âoh I donât understand youâ or âwhat are you saying?â. They simply nod to each other. You can tell even with the language barrier, the characters developed a sense of respect for one another. So even though they donât understand them, they can somewhat gather what they are saying by their facial expressions or hand movements. Itâs a very interesting take. Yea itâs frustrating to watch because you want the characters to understand each other but thatâs what makes this show so great. You are meant to feel frustrated because itâs exactly how the characters feel. Itâs like being in their shoes sort of. Such an amazing series.
I really enjoyed 1899 definitely have to pay attention in this one.. other then that really goos
I am so confused!!! But love the show just wish I knew what itâs about
Feels like it also pays tribute to another scifi/timeloop thriller "Triangle"
9:18 "Going down the rabbit hole" đđłď¸đ
âAll AROUND the Watchtowerâ? Bruh, itâs âAll ALONG the Watchtowerâ, at least know the correct title of this classic song, show some respect. đ
Oh my god if I see anyone else comparing 1899 with dark I will loose it!!!! What kind of obsession is this?!? Dark was a great show itâs finished now move on daaaaaaaamn! Itâs like 1899 canât be itâs own show itâs got to draw from dark ..? Of course it will be made in a similar fashion as itâs from the same exact creators but its itâs own show and itâs amazing in so many ways that dark wasnât let it shine
When David took out the flashlight in the engine room, i searched on google "when did flashlight was invented?" it says by British Inventor named David in 1899. i was speechless…
Why explain dark on a post for 1899. Why assume I had seen dark before this. smh
I have a theory remember there is a scene where our female protagonist says
To his son that one day I have to let you go and his son said don't be a fool I will forever live with you and dad. Her son is the creator this is his simulation
Why not hack the program from the beginning or tell her that he is her husband on first introduction. The kid was also silent for like 5 episodes and there no actual reason. Also the flashbacks are fake since they are not actually in 1899. So they wasted almost 1/3 of the run time on flashbacks that are fake⌠idk I loved the first few episode then it honestly fell flat. As it went on every wall they punched happened to lead to a hole that lead to a passage they just needed to go down. If I went back and watched I would be bored. In the end I watched 8 hours of a show I have no actual idea what the plot TRULY is.
One cool detail I noticed is that the flashlight was invented in 1899 đŚ
Itâs a nod to the story of Prometheus which is also a theme used in Dark.
This show is for teenagers and not adults. It's a sci-fi Twilight for kids. Please market this show properly.
Dark was a great show for adults but lagged towards the last 20%. 1899 is not the same show and definitely not for the same audience.
As an honorable mention, Conor McGregor's performance was nothing short of spectacular, especially considering this was his first major acting role.
I think the 2099 Prometheus is a generational star ship and Maura is a second-generation passenger. Daniel says "Maura is an Irish name, but you're not Irish"; because she wasn't born in Ireland nor on Earth.
Making sequels are always a challenge. I aporeciated the development of the characters. The resolution reminded me of the Matrix or Oblivion.
Pathetic foreign subtitled, voice dubbed pile of feces!
the sick mother was Laura' she talk abt it how her father create the asylum to save her mother coz she' starting to forget abt her family '(her memory). Henry / Daniel a house Ruler / immortal * was the Doctor of the psych and he invented the project kerberos, prometheus and other sink ship in order to save her wife Maura ' the other character are probably his patient too clearly all of them are with painful past. and maybe it was created by Maura, every character define every personality Fear, forgiveness etc.
daniel was created by henry too it is his way to communicate to his wife to wake up on her fantasy or dreams or in a coma, from the beggining maura always talked abt how her father are obsesed abt human mind' he doesnt want to give up her wife so the future Henry or Old henry created everything as timeline continously with the same scenario in every ship (project). and Maura / Star of the Sea / Sea of bitterness / Rebellion / Wished for a Child .
maybe the reason why she's gone mad and sick because she' can't have a baby' and that's what she told to eyk that she can't have a baby coz lf miscariage and got complications.
This show is extremely slow, confusing, and doesn't even payoff in the end. They leave you hanging with zero answers that can only be found out by dragging you along for multiple seasons, just to forget and abandon the original story. This show was terrible and will continue to be terrible.
Donât forget how they were asked multiple times to Sink (sync) ship
the actor of eyk is my teachers brother lmao
I will say this now! The "future" will just be another simulation, and the third season will be in 1999!
According to this, I didn't miss anything.
