Navy hasn’t given up range and firepower for stealth with the F-35. If the f-18 is capable of going somewhere b/c stealth isn’t needed, then the F-35 can as well with external strores. And the F-35 carrier a far greater weight of ordinance than the F/a-18C or E/F. It’s just that the F-35 gives you the option of being very stealthy and still carrying two 2,000lb bombs, 2 aim-120s and 2 aim-9a

Its true that the F-18 design is basically "meh" compared to the F-14 but after seeing the new top gun, the F-18 really grew on me. However the F-14 is still in my opinion the hottest looking jet I have ever seen. It also goes without saying the F-18 is also a beautiful jet but the F-14 just hits diff.
if i could only have one aircraft for my country it would be between this and the f15. the f18 is truly and omni role aircraft and relatively cheap compared to others. the f35 and f22s limited carrying capacity i just cant get over. the navy f35 cannot carry the lrasm if im not mistaken. i think they will need to continue to produce both stealth aircraft and ones such as the f15 and f18 as missile trucks.

F/A-18 is a sexy warplane.
The F14D was better than the FA18. Much better range and with many AA weapons able to out range the FA18 range it means that the FA18 ia always in trouble from the deck to the target. Especially if you take China into account.
The USN needs a new F14 with better stealth and dog fighting ability.

How is the F/A-18A Hornet unsexy? And I’m not even a particular Hornet fan. More of a F-16, F-15, F-22 guy.
Both the F-14 and the F/A-18 are perfectly named. Pictures of them fully loaded, on the carrier elevators nose on,,, the Tomcat looks like just that,, a badass feral beast with claws. The Hornet looks exactly like the one thing you never want to be stung by.
And for what it’s worth,, very few countries have ever been able to compete in the sky. So, no countries fighters on the ground were ever scared or worried about a fighter. Until the Hornet. When they saw that thing buzzing above them, they quickly realized it meant they were fu*ked.

Australia adopted the F-18 in 1984, replacing old Mirage 111's, which were not very safe aircraft. We chose the F-18 over the F-16 largely due to it's twin engines. We soon fell in love with our Hornets and at many major public events a pair of them would fly over and perform various manoeuvres. I once lived close to the F1 circuit in Melbourne and the F-18's flew so close to my apartment that it seemed I could reach out and touch them. The sound of their engines is overwhelming. We've now replaced them with F-35's, but the F-18 will always be fondly remembered.
Most of his videos are well researched and informational. This was just a pure propaganda video. Too many mistakes to list. The actual Hornet was a disappointment to those who flew the F14 or E6. It had a very poor range with a limited combat load. It was a decent fighter and a decent attack jet. It did not pioneer fly by wire the F16 was in service quite a bit earlier than the F18 the F17 version lost out to the F16 in the light fighter competition for the airforce. The weapon advancements are what made the F18 a better jet. Something that would have made any jet better. The F18 was a decent jet, but it was not the world killer that this video makes it out to be.

F/A 18 was adopted to save costs and fuel. It was slower, and had a lower payload capacity than the two birds it immediately replaced, which were the F14, and F4. (Tomcat and Phantom II respectively.) I can't recall for certain, but think it had a shorter range also.
The F-14 had many more than five kills. It had dozens of air to air kills while in service with the Iranian Air Force in their war against Iraq.

The F14 had over 500 miles more range, carried weapons for long range fighting that the F18 never adopted, and I can go on and on. Pretty sure the F18 was a cheaper alternative to COMPLIMENT both the F14 and F15.

There are a number of inconsistencies between this video and others that discuss the history of the F-18. The F-18 was initially intended to replace aging F4 phantoms and A7 Corsair II. The A-12, which was cancelled was intended to replace the A-6 Intruder and to fulfill many other roles like ASW, Prowler replacement etc. The F-18 didn’t have the long range or payload capacity to replace the A-6. The F-14 was intended to be replaced by the NATF but that never happened. The Super Hornet came out of the ashes of the A-12 and NATF with a significant range and payload improvement. The Hornet is a great plane that had to take on more than originally intended when the Navy it’s started development and it was a cost effective program. Given US success since the Cold War, maybe everything worked out for the best.
I think you need to do your research the only reason the hornet came into existence it's cuz Dick Cheney had a beef with the owners of Grumman and that reason alone is why the F-14 was phased out cuz if you're smart and did your research you would know that they had an upgraded version of the F-14 ready to go call the St 21 that would have had us the same features as the f-35 and F-22 but not you can't do your research and if you did do your research you'd find out that the F-14 is still a better plane than the f-18 and by the way the F-14 can still outperform the f-15s and f16s that are in the Air Force
The F-18 Hornet (and its pilot) became the most amazing airplane in my humble opinion when I witnessed a demonstration of its incredible engine power and low-speed maneuvering abilities during an airshow I attended back in the 1990's. The solo pilot approached down the runway center line from the left and slowed down while pitching up the nose. At the point the Hornet reached the middle of the public viewing area, the plane was going slower than apparent stall speed, seeming to be held up mostly by the thrust of the screaming engines, as the wings were at too high an angle to generate much lift. You could see the wing flaps and tail surfaces making constant quick adjustments to maintain control. The pilot then held this nose-high attitude while slowly executing a full 360-degree turn to port in front of the audience. As the plane came back around, the pilot added more thrust, accelerated and climbed away.
To see a conventional airplane perform that sort of maneuver right down on the deck was nothing short of amazing. A Hawker Harrier also performed its routine that same day, but what the pilot of that Hornet demonstrated was far more impressive to me, and that's what sticks in my mind all these years later. I haven't been able to find a video showing this complete maneuver anywhere, and I wonder if, at some point, it was deemed too risky to continue performing. It was absolutely jaw-dropping.

The F-35 can carry an 18 thousand pound loadout if it's not going stealth… It'll carry everything the F-18 can carry. The F-22 can't, because it doesn't have external hardpoints.
