  1. Amy, Dudley's Mrs was ill and Dudley's himself was not home that night. Not sure if I saw or read that Amy gave the evening off to most servants. Whether she slipped or fell due to pain I don't know.

  2. Regarding Liz's failure to marry Dudley, Elizabeth had an object lesson of what she might expect from marriage after Mary married Darley. Mary became a possession without power, to her complete detriment. Mary was a dunce. Elizabeth was not.

  4. Re: The Armada- The winds in the Channel at that time of the year precluded a simple reversal of course. The weather was poor, most of the Spanish ships had lost their anchors when they fled the fireships. Without anchors, they could not wait in place to outlast bad weather, so, they were forced to take the long route around Scotland. The weather again treated them harshly and many ships were lost on the coast of Scotland, their crews hunted down and killed. They had lost dozens of ships before rounding into Irish waters. It just got worse for them there, as you stated.

  5. She did not want to lose her head over a man, literally. "Froggy went a courting and he did ride," except he rode and sailed home without satisfaction, like Jagger. Lady Bryan, mother of the Vicar of Hell, Francis Bryan. Glenda Jackson, Gloriana, she is my favorite Elizabeth. She died with her head, poor little girl, traumatized forever by the murder of her Mother. Thank you, enjoyed very much.
