This Cat 16H grader was owned by a large mining company when a little over a decade ago it was pulled from service, drained of all its fluids, and abandoned in their boneyard for unknown reasons. But recently my buddy Quinton with Iron King Inc bought to use as a parts machine and had it hauled back to his shop. Before dismantling it we thought it would be fun to see if we could get the Caterpillar 3406C engine to fire up. We disconnected all the drivetrain and hydraulic components, went through the fluids, connected enough wiring to run the engine, end sent some power to the starter to see what would happen!

Ole2stroker YouTube would love that 12v92. He is a Detroit King or one of them. Check the rack to make sure nothing is stuck and she will run like it was turned off yesterday. They are known for tough reliable service.
I would love to hear the Screaming Detroit fire up, Quinton is rightfully cautious to fire it up. Keep up the great videos Casey!
We definitely want to see that 12v start and run. And definitely want to know if he has a channel.
Hearing protection anyone???
Old iron… they just wanna run, unlike today’s computer controlled monstrosities that barely run when they’re in perfect condition
Casey as for heavy equipment will it starts. See matt at diesel creek channel, rich deboss at
Deboss garage and dghd channels
Also salvage workshop channel.
Love seeing big old iron start ups n repairs. Awsome stuff
Think deboss garage actually had a detroit v16 that was dead and did a vid on it
Yes please do a will it start with the v12 generator!!!
V-12, YES.
id watch it
38:00 area is the start.
You know after you said "Shake hands with danger" I had to stop this video and go watch it! So many dangers around big equipment if you don't know what you're doing!
I had to stop watching your video to watch shaking hands with danger. I've never seen it, just sent the link to my company safety guy.
Dam this thing sounds awesome !! I enjoy the variety of your content Casey. Thanks for sharing !!
Now I have to watch Shaking Hands with Danger.
Saw the smoke in the intro…. It'll start
Heavy D Sparks just did an old abandoned excavator that could stand next to this. Don't remember brand or size, but it made a good sized wheel loader look small.
This is really cool, thank you for taking us along.
12V92 GO for it
Why not flip that top over to cut the air intake
Just a couple of little notes, not all of caterpillars were made in the US. I've hauled i can't remember how many parts that were made in Mexico to plants throughout the US. Caterpillar has a huge plant in Mexico where they make parts & equipment that's distributed throughout the US, mainly into Illinois, Kansas, & North Carolina.
Also caterpillar hasn't made a truck engine for years. If you see a truck with a a caterpillar engine, its going to be an old truck. It was back in the 90's when caterpillar quit making truck engines, when the federal government started putting so many regulations on truck emissions.
