Yeah let’s reward mediocrity with participation points rather than force a program to become good enough to thread the needle and win a championship. Winning a championship is supposed to be incredibly hard. Can’t wait to see a 10-3 team get blown out in the second round for nothing

A good middle ground could be a 7 team playoff… still allows for the importance of the reg season and a #1 ranking would still mean something because it gives #1 a bye as well as conference champions matter, but allows for a few teams on the cuff to now make it in…
If this happens, the SEC will have at least 3 teams in the playoff which is crazy. I think there should be a limit on how many teams per conference can get in. If you dont then you risk possibly 4 teams a year from the SEC and people are not gonna like that and this is coming from a bama fan
Playoff expansion is going to be the last death nail in what was once the greatest sport at any level.
The thing that has always made college football special is that every single regular season game mattered. Losing a regular season game has always meant you might be out. That will no longer be the case.
Not to mention these are 18-23 year old kids, already playing 12-15 games a year. 2 extra games means up to 17. It's too much stress on bodies still developing. Too much more chance for injuries that destroy careers.
The thing is NIL and the portal is already going to destroy anything resembling parity. In 5 years the cost to be a top program is going to be $50 million a year minimum. $25+ mil in coaching salary and $25+ mil in NIL. Every year. There's probably only 30 programs nationally that are going to put that up. Maybe it gets to 32. Just split FBS up more. Have the power 2 with 16 teams each. Top 2 of each gets into playoffs.
Then the next 32 at another level.

the statistical advantage of home field should add significant importance to late season games in the 12 team playoff, being and remaining 5-8 in the polls will be critical. Also the top 4 with a bye, the teams should be paired up with the best “home” bowl game location and ticket allocation should be swayed as much as possible to the home team. Giving another layer of advantage to the top 4.

How many conferences are there? Should there be a realignment? Should there be separate divisions with it's own national championship? As it is now, 12 seems too many. Maybe 8. I just want enough space for a team that's hot and on the bubble and has the chance to defeat any team in the field. I would stick to 8 for now and see how that works. Take it slow on expansion.

I like the 4 team format. Makes it harder to get in and the 4 best teams should be elite. Look at all these games the last few weeks of the season that wouldn't mean much because they would all be getting in anyway. Plus, peoples heads will explode when the SEC get 5 -7 teams in the 12 team playoff.
Playoff expansion is fine, buuut…but, there needs to be a cutoff on how many losses a team can have and still make it in. I don't want it to turn into the NFL where teams can lose five plus games and still make it in. I don't want regular season games to become meaningless. I feel that if any team ever has three or more losses then they can not be in the playoff. Regardless of their conference champion status.

Greg, Thank you for that tribute and prayers for the three young men. It's easy to hear a story like that in today's world and not take the time to consider how heartbreaking it is. I appreciate your heartfelt homage, and pray for their families and loved ones.

You know why it's been this competitive? NIL and the transfer portal
In my youth, college football athletes played an 11 game schedule and a bowl game and that covered their scholarship. Now, players have a 12 game regular season, a conference championship, then a 12 team playoff. I understand that NIL is there to fund key players at key positions, but I do not think the players are being properly compensated for all these extra games, nor were they given a vote.
