French President Emmanuel Macron was “quite scathing” of the AUKUS nuclear submarines plan, says Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.
Mr Clennell said Mr Macron went on about AUKUS again while in Thailand for the APEC summit, criticising former prime minister Scott Morrison.
“But I guess, in a sense, he’s criticising the current government, right? In terms of him saying ‘to go on with nuclear submarines is stirring up China, it’s threatening nuclear confrontation with China, it’s not helping the Indo-Pacific strategy’,” he said.

The issue here is France is still sooking about losing the submarine contract. And how is it any different to France or the U.K. not having a showdown with Russia – or China. The President of France has no right lecturing Australia about what we buy for our military. Given the fact the French company would not transfer technology or designs to build the submarines despite being given millions of dollars to do so.
When he called Australia a tin pot country. The reality is – is Australia better off cutting trade agreements with the U.K. – Germany – Italy and other main European countries then rely upon France blocking Australia's entry into the E.U.
Don't do business with the French, they didn't deliver our last submarine project, the screwed up with our mirage planes, they also had under performed and over priced fighter jets and frigates deals with the Taiwanese

AUKUS submarines come to Australia maybe in 2040… American and British dockyards have no capacity to spare. There have been talks about Australia subsidising American dockyards to get those submarines, which makes them even more expensive than they are now. Then Australia will be dependent on USA to fuel their subs, if and when that day comes… Australia is after all a non-nuclear nation. Nothing about the submarine part of Aukus makes any sense from a budgetary and technical perspective.

AUSTRALIAN goernment was fooled by its allies, USA and UK, scrap the deal with France paying high price penalty, while US and UK nuclear submarine building capacity is not available. Wasting tax payers money, wasting valuable time, and more importantly Australian will have no suitable submarines to use for a certaint time. Whoever sign up this deal has to take the responsibility.
