I caught 36 gophers by the end of May one year. Since then I decided that blocking them from my fruits and vegetables is better than killing them (for both of us!).
Exclude gophers rather than killing them!
I started using chicken wire to make baskets to exclude gophers six years ago and my fruit trees are happy rather than eaten!
I decided I wanted to try planting asparagus from crowns, but knew that gophers would eat those crowns right away. So I decided to block them away with hardware cloth.
