  1. do we not understand that the only reason we "NEEDED" player interaction is because the genre was new. now every MMO is not only easy to play but figure out as well, because these systems and mechanics have been around for 20+ years. we will never have another MMO that "NEEDS" player interaction.

  2. GW2 is the ultimate casual game. Come and go as you please. Can't fall behind on gear. Seemingly unlimited number of achievements to complete. Daily activities. Long term goals. Etc..

  3. I have absolutely no idea how it would be implemented but the human factor of toxicity which can be a positive or a negative so there needs to be some way to have cpu teammates for raiding IF YOU WANT IT. To any of those that would argue, "but that's not fair" they need to reevaluate why a game's petty achievement is more important than another's happiness

  4. Not everyone has friends that play the same game, and even if they do they chances their schedules align will be slim. MMOs should have options for people when their friends aren't around, as well as options for people to find new friends.

  5. I like to play without some try-hard mouth breather screaming at me and 59 others. I play games to relax and chill not be stressed out – if I wanted that I'd work longer hours.

  6. "Solo players" in anime are there so that the viewer can paste themselves into the story and has no bearing on how a real game should be build. Holy half baked idea

  8. RuneScape was basically the premier solo MMO. Nobody denied it was an MMO, but to this day the vast, VAST majority of content could not and cannot be played cooperatively with other players. For decades people just enjoyed doing things alone, with others around. Only somewhat recently have they even introduced raids, with the third raid ever in the game having come out a couple months ago.
And you can still do those solo if you want.

  9. 5:12 twelve sky, an old Korean mmo would very much play like that. You could play right through to the end game stuff solo if you build and equip properly. You didn't have to join a guild and most trading didn't require voice or text interaction. You could just set up a stand.

  10. Asmongold nailed it for my reason – I just like to play a great RPG that has a shared world so I don't feel lonely/disconnected. I personally prefer WoW's method of not enforcing group content but rather incentivising it – that way I get to choose what group content to do and when to do it (if I want the incentive). I honestly only returned to FFXIV because of duty support being implemented. If they hadn't I probably wouldn't have returned to that game, wonderful though the story and characters are.

  11. GW2 is nothing but a filler game until u move on to the one u been waiting for. As for the mounts…they are cool until the novelty wears off(which doesnt take long) then they are just annoying. Like seriously im just trying to get from point A to B not fuck with updrafts.

  12. The first MORPG was gemstone. Gemstone 3 and Dragonrealms are still alive and well. They are Text. I still play dragonrealms because I am elderly and enjoy reading. Meridian59 was the first "3D" graphical MORPG.

  13. Playing solo has always been a part of MMORPG… I solo'd as an Enchanter in EQ all the time. I solo'd in Asheron's Call all the time — in fact solo play was most of the game. I solo'd in Ultima Online.

  14. The mmo needs enough people to have a rich and fruitful marketplace. Fuck all the other metrics of how many people you "could" interact with. That's part of it, its great when you have or find people to do shit with sure. But if that marketplace is as dead as a duck and it looks like you are going to grind every single minute motherf-in item yourself and can't sell any big catches you don't want to keep. Count me out. Unless, the "single player" is THAT good.

But honestly i feel too lonely playing mmo's. It is no longer an escape for me.

  15. I think MMO really means when you have exceeded Dunbars Number. (suggested cognitive limit to the number of people with whom one can maintain stable social relationships) Once you are past this, its an MMO cause its simply more massive than you can possibly have these relationships with. My 2 cents….

  16. I have played mostly solo in every MMO i got into except for WoW when i liked to raid. For the most part Guilds, weather serious or casual are FULL of drama i just dont need when i game. Just because I spend the vast majority of my game time doing my thing, i still have a solid friends list and get invited to plenty of group content, i just have the choice to say no. I dont really play constantly solo, but i do tend to play every game outside of guilds. AoC may be a different animal, but given i see AoC as something that will be more like EvE online than any Fantasy style MMO im sure that playing solo there will be equally viable.
