I've been watching what I get and it is still 1 – 5 approximately. Time over 2 hours seems to have a positive effect.
If you're using glitches and dupes anyway, you could use the portable refiner stacking glitch and not need to worry about having to get someone in The nexus to trade an item to.

You can dupe with two portable refiners on a freighter.
You can also store any god tier mods and dupe them in the medium refiner. Essentially having all the same mods and stat on all ships and multitools.
I duplicated mine too. Sad Situation.
They were just too rare, so when I Finally Got One, I duplicated it 25x and decided to be Done With It, just max out the living ship all at once.
If they'd made the rarity somewhat Reasonable (or given more Fun Ways to get them)**, then I'd have kept it around as a gradual goal, but nope not worth playing that part of the game.
**Imagine they were a reward for destroying hives on infested planets?
As Morelyn says, I have no idea why so many people are working so hard to dupe stuff when the portable refiner can take over the galaxy totally solo in about 90 seconds. Playing with no dupes at all is way more fun, but some things are just game breaking unobtainium when playing legit.
I have yet to see a single sac, on my relaxed save. Nothing, nada, and yes I am blaming her.
Something is wrong with trying t obtain them.
I run missions every day, all missions, and have tried organic sand even reaquired some “metal” frigates. Still nothing.
I get plenty of the psychotic eggs, have over 100 now, I get starship storage augmentations, but no sacs. Annoying.
You can get this done a lot faster if you user the small or medium refiners. Take about 3 minutes to get 60 of them.

Though: I think that the duplication glitch with the “Portable Refiner” is quicker. All you have to do is put the spawning sacks into the portable refiner and then stack more refiners on the same place as the filled refiner, as many as you want. And than remove each refiner individually and you’ll get an easy 100, 200, ect spawning sacks. Enough for 2 or 3 living ships to be fully expanded. ;3
