Hey Russell that was great love the video tour of the monorail station I love that form of transportation and also light rail and subway systems I’ve been on a few myself in the US and in British Columbia and even Hawaii anyway have you been on the Las Vegas monorail?
The only one I have been is at Disney World.
Russell, I admire you. I haven't been to Moscow since 2008 and your reporting is great! Very informative😃🖖
Thanks for the video Russell. Nice to see this.
No garbage, mugging,or bums on public transportation? I'm impressed 👏
Thanks for a great video!
Always feeling a little sorry about Moscow monorail… So many efforts and money invested — and so miserable results. (((
Well, according to modern system — this is line #13 (counting all Metro lines, of course).
This appeared to be really unlucky number… )))
I know why the monorail hasn't been a success. Anyone in Russia who puts the platform on the right clearly hasn't read the handbook correctly. It's left every time, comrades.
Expensive? Seattle voted to extend their 1.1km monorail which turned into a disaster over budget. That monorail in Moscow if in Seattle would cost $3.88 billion in 1996 dollars.
Shame on you for encouraging travel to Russia right now. We need to be boycotting the rouble and Putin.
In Russia, Monorail rides you!
Great video ! Did you know that the Moscow monorail was made by a roller coaster manufacturer ? Intamin Amusement Rides. They do roller coasters, amusement rides, and monorails. Also, blue and yellow scarf, cool to see these colors on a video on Russia ^^
Why not just build more light rail, or build Bus rapid transit?
Russia🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
I've only ridden in São Paulo's monorail, and it seems to me that the Moscow monorail is at least two times slower. Still, very interesting to see it in action.
Exciting stuff. I love it.
Moscow Monorail opened in 2008
As a muscovite, I'd agree that the project was a waste from the very beginning. But I'd also argue that 240M for 4.7 kilometers of elevated track (in 2000 money) is actually quite modest. Even accounting for twenty years of (hyper)inflation. To put it into perspective, the recently inaugurated Van Ness bus corridor in San Francisco cost 346M. And it's nothing more than three kilometers of two-way bus lanes on a pre-existing street.
240 million dollars for a 4.7Km track monorail? I am sure a big chunk of it lined quite a few pockets. A nice showpiece though.😀
Thanks for video. I love our monorail because it can show me beautiful views.
You can see russia's former space program in the aerospace museum.
Love the monorails!!
Wow- I went to Moscow 5 times and never knew about the monorail! Thanks!
Wait until you hear about the 2 billion dollar Ottawa monorail!
I was in Moscow three months ago. What a fascinating and grand city. The monorail looked pretty cool.
On Timiryazevskaya, there are no chruschevkas, these are just 5 level houses. Chruschevkas are usually painted white.
7:42 You ask where is the water coming from? Russia pulls from the best sources as it is extracted in an ecologically clean region from a depth of 110 meters (Kasimov aquifer garizont). Also, they tout the Gold medal from PRODEXPO 2020, Gold medal in 2 nominations – the best product and the best enterprise PRODEXPO 2019. The products have all the necessary quality certificates, daily laboratory control is carried out and the water undergoes a 6-step purification process, while retaining all its natural mineral properties (except for Farwater where they control the mineral content).
Moscow Monorail actually is a demonstration of technology more than real mass transit network. It had been a favorite plaything for the previous extravagant Moscow mayor Luzhkov, his personal project you may say. When he finally resigned in 2010, there was no one left to promote it. The major problem with this line however is Moscow climate: in winter wind and snow makes open elevated platforms very uncomfortable.
Living in Moscow many years ago and visiting it only twice after the USSR collapse, I can’t recognize the Exhibition center, where the statue of symbolic pair of the proletarian and the peasant. It used to be a huge park with exhibition pavilions. Wow.
Btw, My first visit of Moscow after many years happened just 4 weeks after the 1991 coup, when the streets in front of the White house ( Russian Parlament), were still barricaded with rails and concrete.
