Navajo Code Talkers’ WWII Legacy To Be Immortalized In New Museum

Ground has been broken on a new museum honoring Navajo Code Talkers. At age 94, Peter MacDonald is one of three still alive today. Their service was pivotal in winning World War II, but Marine Corps top brass initially rejected the idea, saying they “might embarrass this proud organization,” MacDonald recalls. Their success was a cruel paradox in light of America’s painful history of Native American boarding schools meant to strip students of their heritage.

  2. How about Hollywood making a REAL movie about the Code Talkers WITHOUT some BIG NAMED WHITE Guy in the lead. I was thrilled to hear of the last one with Cage, but it was a disappointment as it was more about Cage than the Code Talkers. We have lots of Indian Actors that could do it Justice !

  5. Thank you for covering this story! We need this museum. We must always remember the significant role the Code Talkers had in WWll. Our children must learn and remember these courageous individuals and others who fought for our country despite adversities faced at home. These are the people who brought greatness to our country, who served selflessly with conviction in the ideals this country is about.
Much respect and gratitude to the Code Talkers and their families! 💜🌎

  8. I am so glad for the Navajo Nation. They deserve more than a museum. It is wonderful to see how America can come together as one to defend it. All races get this credit. Japanese Americans fought as well in (Europe) WW2 to show their loyalty to the US after being bombed by their own people. "The Red Tails" too. It's like Charlie Daniels writes in his song "In America." "We may have done a little fighting amongst ourselves but you outside people best leave us alone. Cause we'll all stick together, you can take that to the bank, the cowboys, the hippie's, rebels and yanks." Thank you for your service Navajo Nation.

  9. The things our country did to the Navajo and their children is absolutely disgusting and borders on Hitler’s Nazism. I’ve worked on the reservation and have heard stories from the elders that have had to endure that disgusting, sick behavior of the American teachers and government. America should be ashamed and not trying to hide it from history like the fascists in Florida and Texas and other states that are trying to control what history American children learn in school. This is part of our history and it is a testament to the character of the Navajo. They actually helped our government who did nothing but murder, torture and commit genocide on Native Americans. The Navajo may not believe in Jesus Christ the way most so-called Christians claim to but their actions say they are more Christian than the judgmental, sick “evangelical” people in our country. The Navajo and many other indigenous tribes from North America should be honored for their righteousness, fairness and clarity of reality.
